Daface II: Faces is coming along nicely. Get ready for some creepy weird shizzle.
I won’t have a ton of time this weekend, but I’ll try to make something that makes you think.
Tools:
EITHER:
Notepad++ (Programming) (Javascript, HTML, CSS)
GIMP (Graphics)
SFXR (Sound effects)
AUDACITY (Music editing)
ROLAND JUNO-DI Electric Keyboard (Music)
OR:
GAMEMAKER: STUDIO STANDARD (Programming, Graphics)
SFXR (Sound effects)
AUDACITY (Music editing)
ROLAND JUNO-DI Electric Keyboard (Music)
Good luck to all!
I just started because my sister is in town and leaving tomorrow. Luckily, she also gave me an idea for a game.
It’s about 1:30 AM my time right now, so I’ve gotta get to be soon, but hopefully I can make a random alien generator before then.
Good luck Ya’ll!
PS- I’ll be using Gamemaker: Studio because my idea is far too ambitious for my limited javascript skills at this time. Maybe if I were better, but meh.
3:30 AM here, so I’m off.
I finished a thing that makes randomised alien appearences. It works pretty well, and there aren’t too many similar ones.
I’ve calculated that there are OVER 9000 possibilites currently, and that’s still not including color or personality.
Here’s a screen of a screen full of random aliens.
Good night, and good luck!
I made a star map, al-la FTL:FTL’s map screen. This will be the main screen of the game, where you’ll do things.
Also I implemented a random alien race name generator. Lots of consonants and apostrophes!
Now I’m getting light headed, probably because it’s 4 o-clock, and all I’ve had to eat are pancakes.
Lunch time!
Yeah, I can’t even get my thing close to finished on time. Plus I don’t feel like working on it.
I might make something crappy and joke-y to submit last minute though.
My LD was going so well.
I started out Friday night with some pretty awesome ideas involving randomly generated worlds and the complex economic ties between them. In my vision, you could manipulate the market by feeding both sides of a war, or hiring pirates to take out a crucial shipment of food to a war-torn nation in order to raise demand, or tipping off a nation’s enemy of a shipment from the nation’s ally, in order to turn the two against each other.
With this rather enormous scope, I began making random alien generators, random name generators, and random color generators.
But then, on Saturday afternoon, I just stopped. My motivation flooded away leaving my impatient with pretty much everything, and supremely unwilling to work on my game.
I dropped out, rather than waste such a good idea by scaling it down. I made a quick jokey thing, but it was pretty difficult, primarily because my motivation still hadn’t returned.
And it still hasn’t. I’m just hoping I’ll muster up enough to play some games so people will play my game.
So anyway, if anyone is peering under their bed looking for a sock, and happens to stumble upon my motivation, please send it along.
Thanks.
heir is an wallpapper thant i mad for ld 30 butt i editd it so you kant evn tell
640×480
1280×720
(No disrespect to the people who actually made good wallpapers of course! You guys are great!)
Indecisive? Yup.
Anyway, if the theme inspires me, I’ll try to do something or another. My busy-ness this weekend is unknown though, so we’ll see.
Aaaanywho, tools!
IDE:
Either Notepad++, if I decide to use Javascript, or Gamemaker:Studio.
SFX:
Audacity, or possibly SFXR, depending on the style of the game.
GRAPHICS:
The native Gamemaker sprite editor, or GIMP, depending on the style.
If I end up using Javascript, I’ll probably end up using the native canvas draw functions. Fancy right?
MUSIC:
Audacity, a double ended AUX cable, an AUX splitter, two sets of headphones, and a Roland Juno-Di electric keyboard.
Okay, interesting theme. I didn’t vote it up, but now I can think of some interesting things to do. I’m going to commit to entering, just because this theme kind of lends itself to making a short compact game, so I hopefully won’t bit off more than I can chew this time.
I’ll be using Gamemaker: Studio, Audacity, and maybe some other stuff. GOOD LUCK ALL!
Short answer: No idea. My first instinct was a sort of huge bossrush game, where you just start in a room, and fight a string of bosses. I’ve still not completely ruled out this idea, but frankly, it just seems a bit pedestrian. Then I thought “What if I made the bosses procedurally generated”, which was a dumb idea, because there’s no good way to make a system that will churn out interesting and fun bosses that are distinct from each other, and even if there was, doing it in two days is not going to work.
After that, the phrase “You are the room” popped into my head, which is an interesting idea, although I haven’t the faintest idea how the thing would actually play out. I briefly touched upon a tower defense game, but frankly, I’ve always found them pretty boring to play, let alone to make. Just as I’m writing this, I was thinking of some sort of top down car racing game.
So in short, no friggin’ idea.
So I was drawing a sort of 90s computer screen overlay. I like the results a lot, but it took almost an hour, and I screwed up some math so I now only have 240×180 pixels with which to work. Doable, yes, but easy, no. I am not going to draw the whole thing again, so I guess I’ll just have to deal with the minute resolution. It bugs the hell outta me though, because now the game is only a tiny window in the center of a large screen overlay.
Total insomnia last night. Stayed up until almost 6 AM, so consequently, I didn’t wake up until 2:00 this afternoon. Lost a bunch of work, but I’ll hopefully get to finish something.
