Ludum Dare 46

Okay, it's finished!

I just finished and uploded a game to LD 46. It was a lot of challenging during the creating process.

I created a few systems with waypoints, buildings, creatures, enemies. Graphics is simple, but made by my own. It's not what i should proud of, but 3d models looks pretty consistent. Only UI and Effects was downloaded, but i made some polish with it. UI Structure take time of creating. Most challenging was to creating balance of the game, I spent a lot of time to make it work.

The sad part is here no polish of every aspect of the game. Code needs some refactoring, graphics not ended, some features not ended, there is no sounds in game. And balance is that part, which needs a big work on polish. Pareto efficiency, hi! But, the result is playable and fun. Just try it)

*The result is a relly nice! I like it very much ^_^ *

The idea of the game is simple! Creatures must survive as long as possible. But their life is not easy, they must constantly replenish food supplies, and defend themselves from enemies which attacks from time to time!

I hope you enjoy too. Get some feedback will be nice! Also how far will you go? Will you survive 5,10 or 100 days? Just find out

Day 2 - WIP - Push

Do you like bowling? xD

Added push ability to the player, and it feels so good now to control the croud

Still need some polish though :(

The final goal for today is finish core loop and break floor with holes and obstacles. So much work to do, but i think i have enough time to finish and polish game. I have some issues with visuals, Is there some ways to make total look better without spending too much time on it?

Congratulations! Jam Finished!

It was very pleasant to return after quate a while. The experience of jam is challenging and fun at the same time.

At the 3rd final day the game became a some playable piece of software :) And final result is great! The game is fun and engaging. More detailed post will be later ( after a few days I guess )

Can't wait to see your games. You all rock!

P.S. Also can you tell how to add links to posts? It's very frustrating

Gameplay and Core loop

Let's talk about gameplay, i am very excited with this mechanics, because you can:

  • push penguins to water
  • play as "pied piper" and drop them into hole
  • you can take fish from penguin back to you

And this all feels very good, at my opinion Anyway, core loop with fish delivery and with avoiding hungry penguins is done as it planed. It's my first game with solid and polished gameplay to LD!!!

Review your games

Hello everyone! :penguin:

There is really some very interesting games, ideas, mechanics! I already checked all what I was interested for, and search for new fun games, I think that real people recommendations is always better then some algorithms.

So feel free to send links to your game in comments, or send what you liked! I will check every game) Let's also start an open discussion!)

It's time to check your

LD53 - Thank you!

Hello everyone! We received so much feedback for our game and we want to thank you all for this attention!

*Guys you all rock! 🚀 We are very grateful to all of you! Thank you! :penguin: *

We are really appreciate it!

Especially, we want to highlight people who gave detailed criticism for the game, all streamers who have played and shown the game on their stream with live reaction and feedback. And also to all the people who were just passing by, but also rated our game!

Your feedback and attention will help to make this game a lot better and more fun to play, no doubt. We figured out which mechanics work best, and a small indie browser game with penguins can become live, but only after the post-jam edition. The hard work just began, and there is much more to come.

Ice Break Delivery post-jam edition!

:penguin: Can you beat my 72 631 score? :penguin:

So guys, the last three days are left, and we have done post-jam edition. All changes are based on your feedback, without you we will not be able to figuare out what aspects of game feels most frustrating and now it all fixed and now you can get clear and fun experience.

And here the main changes we made:

  • Score System (with best score)
  • Markers rework
  • Balance improvements
  • Bug fixes
  • UI fixes

Playing Ice Break Delivery feels even more fun and exciting now. We are fully satisfied with the result and invite you to try the final version.

Ice Break Delivery

It was an interesting and very useful experience, not only in development but also in working with feedback. We did not expect such attention and warm reception, so we want to express our gratitude to all those who've already tried out our small project. :penguin:

Score System & Leaderboards

Hello, everyone! I want to ask questions and open a discussion about leaderboards in games and in jam submissions, especially.

Can you tell how often you add score and leaderboards to your jam game? And how do players make competitions for the best score or best runs in your game? Please tell me your experience and stories too!

And here is our experience:

Jam:

When the brainstorm was done and we came up with the idea of Ice Break Delivery, we thought that leaderboards and a score system would allow players to compete with each other and add depth to the game, but the time was very restricted, and we finished all gameplay mechanics but without such additional features as a score system and leaderboards.

Post-jam edition:

Yesterday we released the post-jam edition and also added a score system to the game as part of the post-jam edition, and finally the idea of the game core works fully as intended. Also, we expanded the score system, and you get points from many different actions. It also scales with completed days and can lead to interesting strategies for players.

What we learned:

Now there are 3 days left in total, and I think no one is interested in playing and scoring the best runs in our game now. Also, here is a second problem because the score system lacks leaderboards where players can compete with each other, and having an online leaderboard directly in the game is a huge advantage, I think.

And we had our lesson where a score system must be necessarily added within 72 hours of the jam if the game needs such score mechanics and was originally designed as an idea.

What do you think about it? :penguin:
