LD24

Our first jam!

I have assembled a group of people to work on the ludum dare jam! This will be the first LD for all of us so we decided to work together and do the 72 hour competition. Next time some of us will make our own games in the 48 hour contest.

Tools:

Java

LWJGL

The theme…

Awwww… This was not one of the themes I was hoping for… I guess I will have to work on a new idea… Back to the drawing board!

We have an idea!

We have an idea here (Finally)! And it managed to include space! That’s all I can say for now because I need to get to making the idea real!

Everything is going well so far!

The 3d Engine is almost done, so today I hope to get to programming the actual game! OpenGL 3.2 will be required to run the game.

24 hours in!

Were more the 24 hours into the Jam now. We still don’t have any playable content because of shader errors that plague our engine.

Looks like I’m in!

Looks like I free this weekend, so I’ll be competing in the compo! Unless of course I convince a friend or two to work with me… then we’ll do the jam.

Tools:

Language: Java

IDE: Eclipse

Libraries: LWJGL, and possibly a .obj consolidator model loader a friend wrote and gave me a while back. (I’m guessing this counts as a person library) EDIT: It also does binary model loading

Art: Blender/GIMP/Paint.NET

And I think that’s it!

After almost 5 hours and almost 1000 lines of code I’ve almost got a working idea… the engine also (sorta) works

So… I’ve written 933 lines of code for the engine (not including the shaders, which right now are just pass through right now anyway…) and I just got it displaying loaded models. I’ll hopefully be able to catch up to others soon. My concept for a game is coming along, but it’s not quite there yet.

Here’s a screenshot:

Falling so very far behind…

Well changing what I was making 15 hours in was a bad idea… Looks like I really far behind now. Static object work, but dynamic objects still don’t, which is a problem… Hopefully I’ll get them working soon so I can have a worthwhile screenshot.

Coming together!

Things are finally beginning to come together!

Begining to come together

(The graphics are stand-in. Waiting until later to finish them up.)

Do I need a different QR code scanner? I can’t get this to work!

Making Lots of Progress, But life keeps getting in the way…

I’m close to being done! Unfortunately I have lots of stuff piling up in real life, which requires my attention… This might be the end. I’ll keep trying though!

Here’s a picture of my progress:

Same thing for me. :(

So close…

I think it’s unlikely I’ll finish… but I’ve finished almost everything… just need to make the AI work (maybe almost wasn’t the right word) and tune up everything.

Well… Here is a screenshot of my progress:

I am in

For the first time in a while I’ll be doing the compo instead of the jam. Instead of writing my own engine I’ll be using Unity.

As far as the game goes, I think I’ll be making a classic turn based rouge-like. I’ll probably post more details once I figure them out.

Game Concept and First Little Bit of Progress

I’ve decided to make a pretty classic turn based rouge like. The twist is that there are no spells or attacks. Instead, the player must progress through levels by defeating enemies with argumentation. Words are the player’s unconventional weapon.

The first thing I decided to do was dungeon generation since it seemed like one of the harder problems to tackle and I wanted to solve it before I get too tired. It’s sort of broken right now though. Hallways don’t always end up in the right location…

Here’s a screenshot of the debug map. The green areas are walls and blue areas are walk-able:

Level Generator is Fixed!

Just fixed the remaining bugs with my dungeon generator.
