Ludum Dare 45

IN IN I am IN Again For the Compo :)

This will be my 16th time participating in the Ludum Dare Compo! I did not finish my game in April due to losing a day to go see Avengers Endgame. But I'm back now with a good, full weekend ahead!

I will likely be using C# and MonoGame using any of the toy engine code I have sprinkled around my GitHub https://github.com/srakowski feel free to use any of it should you find something useful. For graphics I almost always go with Paint.Net, GIMP, and Paint. For Audio SFXR, Bosca Ceoil, and Audacity have been my go-to tools. On that note...

This LDJAM I think I am going to do my best to NOT neglect Audio. It tends to be the thing I try to tack on at the end of the jam, but I want to be working on audio by sometimes Saturday. We'll see how this turns out.

Good luck to everyone!

Compo Time - I'm In

This will be my 17th time participating in Ludum Dare, and my 6th anniversary of my first! I was not suppose to be doing Ludum Dare this time because my wife and I had purchased tickets to the League of Legends LCS Spring Finals in Texas, USA. However, due to that which shall not be named, the live event was cancelled freeing up this weekend for one of my favorite things :).

I am likely the most prepared I have ever been for one of these. Instead of starting completely from scratch or spending the last few weeks trying to rebuild an engine from scratch, I am starting with the same base code that I used for my last Ludum Dare game. The code is here: https://github.com/srakowski/LD46 and is open for anyone to use.

For code: * C# & .NET Core 3.1 * MonoGame * Visual Studio 2019 Community

For graphics: * Aseprite (purchased today, ready to give it a go) * Paint.NET (use this a lot) * Inkscape * GIMP (if I have to)

For audio: * BoscaCeoil * SFXR * Audacity

Goals: 1. DO NOT IGNORE AUDIO OR LEAVE IT OFF TO THE LAST MOMENT. I've said this before, but I haven't followed through. Once I land on an idea I may start with making a song in Bosca Ceoil just to make sure I have something in the end. 2. Use a Shader or 2. A fella by the name of ManBeardGames on Twitter was nice enough to create a couple of basic tutorials to get me started with shaders in MonoGame. I feel compelled to make his effort worthwhile.

I think a general theme this jam is to start with the end in mind and build art & assets before creating the code. I think I may use this approach.

I'm happy to be at this again. I wish you all luck!

Ready for Compo Time, I'm In!

This will be my, holy banana phone, 18th time participating in Ludum Dare Compo.

Usually use C#, Visual Studio, MonoGame, Asesprite, Paint.NET, Gimp, Inkscape, Sfxr, Audacity, Bosca Ceoil, and other things. There's always a chance I just throw all that out and try something different, but not likely. I may try to produce something in LMMS this time. Audio is always on my list for things I shouldn't put off until the end... but I always seem to do so :(.

Starter code (which I will push soon) is on GitHub here: https://github.com/srakowski/LD47

I'll be likely pulling infrastructure/engine code from previous LDJAM entries on the same account, but gameplay will be new.

Good luck everyone!

Ludum Dare 48

I'm in for the most epic #LD48 Compo ever... #LD48!!!

I wasn't in a good place for LD47 and even though I signed up for the event I threw in the towel after a day of getting nowhere. First time that has happened where I couldn't pull myself to put in an earnest effort. It was quite depressing. But here we are months later! I'm in a much better place now and ready to rock & roll!

This will by my 19th time participating in Ludum Dare! Wow, I'll hit 20 in October, AWESOME!

Sticking with my classic tools: Visual Studio 2019, MonoGame, C#, Paint.NET, GIMP, Asesprite (maybe), Paint, SFXR/BFXR, Bosca Ceoil, etc... I've also had Jack Links Beef Sticks for every time I've participated (that I remember). SO I got me a pack of those!

All starter code is here: https://github.com/srakowski/LD48. I'm trying to cobble together a loose engine before things start :P I'll probably throw it all away.

Good luck to everyone! To myself, remember, DON'T NEGLECT AUDIO!

Here we go!!!!!!

Ludum Dare 49

I'm in for the compo. With a single goal....

Hi everyone! This will be my... woah... 20th time participating in Ludum Dare! Is that right?

My goal this time is simply to finish something, anything. I had a good track record but the last 2 events I've thrown in the towel. The first time I just wasn't in a good place (mentally). The most epic 48th I was in a good place but simply ran out of time before getting my idea to fruition. I think my age is catching up with me! :older_man:

So this time I just want to finish and submit something. May just be the simplest game ever. That's okay!

Also, cool stuff, I'm running a 10k tomorrow so I'll miss a couple hours of the event. Keep it simple!!!!

Sticking with my classic tools: Visual Studio 2022, MonoGame, C#, Paint.NET, GIMP, Asesprite (maybe), Paint, SFXR/BFXR, Bosca Ceoil, etc… Starter code is here: https://github.com/srakowski/LD49; no content but dummy content I'll chuck.

Good luck y'all!!!

Compo Time... Will my curse end?

Hi everyone! I'm in for my 21st Ludum Dare.

I haven't finished a game since LDJAM 46 :(. Will my curse end? I have something else I can do tomorrow so I'm going to see how things play out tonight. If I'm not rocking and rolling on an idea I think I'll call it and do that other thing.

I'm not sure what my stack is going to be this time around. I need to switch things up. I'm planning on using C#, but everything else is up in the air.

Good luck y'all.

I'm in for the Compo!

Oof, I'm on repeat now! I've had a string of bad Ludum Dares where I haven't got anything through to submission. LD46 was the last time I finished!!! I'm hoping to change that this time around and prove to myself I can still do this!

Good luck y'all!

I'm In!

Failed the last many many compos. Doing something different this time. I need a W on the board. Good luck all!

What's the word on using AI in the compo?

I seem to recall a post saying AI use rules were TBD, but I can't seem to find it now...

It's been a while since my last Ludum Dare, did this land some place?

I'd really like to use AI tools in this jam, just to see what I'm capable of with it, but I don't want to go outside the rules of the compo.

Thanks!

I'm In (Compo)

I haven't had a successful Ludum Dare since LD46 . I'm hoping to change that this time around.

I'll probable use my normal stack:

MonoGame/C#/.NET Visual Studio Paint.NET/Gimp/Inkscape Bosca Ceoil

Boilerplate code: https://github.com/srakowski/LD57 (mostly empty)

Have fun everyone!
