Ludum Dare 50

So... I made a retirement home management game...

Main.png

So... This is my first time joining a ludum dare Jam. I amways saw it as too big and intimidationg for me... But, when I saw that it was the 20th anniversary, I forced myself to joining. And since I like a bit of challenge (and I'm probably a bit insane) I opted for the compo.

I wasn't really inspired by the theme at first. But after a bit of brainstorming I gathered that the most unavoidable thing in life is... well... death... (duh!)

So I came up with this idea of trying to keep a dying character alive by tending to it's need. And it somehow turned out into a retirement home management game. I know it sound dull... & to be honest... it kinda is ^^

The game is not half as fun as it should be, it's not properly balanced & it's missing a lot of the features I had in mind (Overscoping is a real plague). BUT it's playable and it basically do what I was aiming for.

I'm honestly proud that I managed to pull off that much in just 48h with initially almost 0 knowledge on how to properly design music or make proper sounds (not saying it sound awesome... but it's not awfull... so that's a win).

Anyway... If that got you curious. Feel free to give it a go & don't hesitate to leave feedbacks.

I'll probably post a post-jam update (yes... I'm frustrated about all the missing features in that game... again, overscoping is a plague :p)

If you made it so far in this post... well.. don't you have anything better to do ? Go play some games ! And don't forget to leave feedbacks !

Cheers ! :)

Post-Jam Update

So... I've just published a post jam update for my compo entry :

I've been sitting on it for close to 10 days now. I actually did the work right after the end of the submission period. Had to take out thoses overscoped features out of my head.

Add a bunch of small features that were crually missing in the jam version. - A trash to get rid of furniture you don't need anymore. - More diversified sprites for residents. - A little backstory for each one of them. - Some noice popping particles when resident fulfill their needs. - Stats & layouts for the furnitures. - Re-balanced the shop prices (yes... you can now actually afford a TV without try harding)

Also completly redone the HUD to get rid of this (annoyingly) unpractical popup window system. - The shop is now always available on the side of the screen - The stats of residents & furniture are displayed on hovering. (why the hell I didn't do that in the first place... no idea...) - Formated the timer to be readable by normal human beeing & added a best timer display.

That's about it... but I might have overlooked a few ones.

The game might honestly still not be "not boring" but it definelty feel better to play.

Now all there is to do is wait for the results.

If you made it to the end of that post... well... go away... seriously... It's too much text...

And if you also played & rated the game... Thank you kind stranger !

All there is to do now is wait for the results... and most importantly... the next jam :)

In the mean time if you want to go try my post-jam release. Be my guest :)
