LD22

I’m in…. Maybe?

I’m a little bit uncertain about how everything works. I’m very new to this sort of thing, and at this point all that I think I am capable of would be a text adventure made in Java. If I even figure out how to make it (I haven’t actually ever made a real game before), I would be sure to put plenty of effort into it. All I’m wondering is whether or not that would be considered spam, because it wouldn’t exactly be the same caliber as what everyone else would be making. Also, if text adventures are okay,  by doing this post am I entered in the competition? Or is it too late? Sorry….

Text adventures are definitely OK for the compo. 😀 As for ‘qualifying,’ all you need is an account on this site – then click the “submit here” link in the bottom-center of the banner (right now you would be submitting to the warmup weekend), fill out the form, and you’re good!

There’s a wide variety of ability in LD., so don’t worry about caliber.

Awesome, thanks everyone!

Still Brainstorming….

I’ve done very little in the way of actual Java coding; my mind seems to be apt to procrastinating right now. The problem is, of course, because I’m fairly new to the language  I can’t really plan out lots of cool features because I might not be able to actually implement them. One thing that I have done that might seem productive is make some sound effects. True, I’m planning a text-adventure game, but I might still find a use for them.

I’m planning to do most of the work tomorrow, so I think I’ll go to bed soon. Hopefully a fresh perspective will help things along.

I’ve been really limited to what I can do because of my lack of programming knowledge. I’m trying to make a text adventure, but the way things are turning out it will probably be more like a demo than an actual game (even a short one).  I’m making a text adventure, but I doubt ti will turn out as a very good one. I’m using lots of complicated if statements to run through a series of classes, giving the illusion that it is like Zork, but if anything it is more like a choose your own adventure book, because you can’t go backwards. So kind of lame, but it is the best I can do.
