LD 39

I'm in :)

First time I'm going to participate in the jam. I'm pretty excited.

Tools I'm going to use: - Godot Engine 2.1.3 - OBS - Peek (for making gifs) - LMMS (if time permits) - sfxr - Blender as video editor - Emacs - :coffee: - itch.io for hosting - github for code

I'm going to team up with my GF - Kyasarinn. She is an artist :art: I'm not sure how to add somebody to team... but I hope I'll figure it out!

Good luck everyone and have fun!

Good morning!

It's 11 A.M here, 8 hours after Jam's start. So far I managed to:

  • get sleep
  • read the theme
  • make some coffee
  • break up the confectionery

It's time to start working :)

Progress report 1

To the point: I'm quite happy with the results so far. I'v got character controller written utilizing FSM Plugin for Godot. I have some entities ready, as well as some simple visual effects that will help build the game mood. The thing is I don't have any art yet. Placeholders everywhere

I'm recording whole process - I'll make a timelapse after the jam.

Oh, It seems that my backup script has finished the job few seconds ago, time to make a supper.

Have fun!

Progress report 2

Everything is going well. Most of the gameplay mechanics is done. We have some art in place. I'm having lot of fun. Plan for tomorrow: sound, music and some storytelling :)

Good night!

LD 40

We are in

My lovely girlfriend @kyasarinn and I decided to participate in LD40. To be honest I'm pretty hyped :D I love the positive vibe of the event. Good luck everyone!

Software Stack - Linux :penguin: - Godot Engine 3.0 beta (YOLO) - Pyxel Edit / Aseprite / Gravit Designer - Visual Studio Code - Git (of course) - music... no idea.... - rfxgen or something like that - screen recording... I'll probably write shell script to take screen shot every minute or something :D

Shopping time

We making progess on our game - shopping simulator ;) It's going slower than I thought but it's not that bad. We have @kamil-lewan in the team this time. Additional programmer is priceless!

Below - programmer's art :D ldjam40-prev1.gif

We are out

Why

Our game is terrible broken mess and our AI doesn't listen to us. And we are tired. We will try next time.

Lessons learned

  • never try to use beta version of engine in the jam
  • don't use plugins you didn't write yourself. Especially complicated ones
  • simple game-play first, then add new mechanics
  • high quality code from the beginning
  • plan your time ahead

Here is time-lapse recorded on my laptop:

  • text editor: Kakoune

Have fun everyone!

Progress report

So it's second day of jam. Our game is yet another take on [gerne] + cards game :) In this case: platformer/shooter + cards. We have most of basic systems written. @kamil-lewan is working on procedural level generation while @kyasarinn work on graphics. We are going to integrate art this evening.
