I’m in!

Since this is my first time in Ludum dare, I decided to go with the jam and do this with a friend. Will see how this works out, and I hope to actually finish the game.

Tools used:

  • Unity (code in javascript)
  • Blender (if I decide to go 3d)
  • Photoshop CS 6
  • Bfxr, sfxr and Audacity for audio

Quack!

Day 1, not so good

I hoped that my first Ludum dare would go better than this… The Day started off well, until, after few hours of work, I got the BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death, for those who don’t know) and lost most of my work. But that wouldn’t be the biggest problem though. I don’t have a solid idea for the game yet. The theme didn’t ring a bell, no great, or good ideas…

Ok, I’ll stop being pessimistic about this, I still have a day left. Lesson learned for the next time though.

Oh, and here are some screenshots, not going to reveal too much:

Going to sleep now, the start was at 4:00 am for me.

Progress Update 2

I have finally started messing with dialogs and a question came to my mind – should I record all the dialogs or subtitles are going to be fine? I really don’t know if I will be able to record everything, but it’s probably going to be better though. And for some unknown reason lights are going through walls:

Edit: And for other unknown reasons the lights look like shit in screenshots :(

Haven’t made any real progress today, just been fiddling with the subtitles and squishing bugs, and brainstorming about what to do next. Here’s what I got:

  • More things to do (puzzles, etc.)
  • Audio
  • Textures?
  • Story
  • Main menu

Will see how this goes, and tomorrow is monday, and that means school, so not a lot is going to get done tomorrow.

Quack.

Progress Update 3

Making some progress, finally. I’ve started recording the dialogs and advancing the plot, but graphics aren’t going too well, probably since I’m a programmer and this is the first game I’m actually going to finish (hopefully). No screenshots this time, nothing new in graphics department. Oh, I’m going to do the Bieber challenge. 😀nm1LZwa

By the way, any artist wants to join up for next Ludum dare?

Update

Well, I’m done working for today. Hasn’t been a long day, actually, but I still have school tomorrow. Progress today – I don’t even remember what I did today and what yesterday. The level is mostly finished, still needs one more room. It has some sound (some voice acting too, if I can call that acting :D), and you can now actually finish the story, kinda (in a bit more than a minute). I’ll do my best tomorrow to try and finish this, but it’s a failed idea in my opinion. Going to finish it though, something’s better than nothing.

Failure

I’m going to call this LD a failure for me, because what I made isn’t a game really (here’s a link). I can’t fully call it a failure, though, because I still learned a lot and this IS the first game I’ve actually tried to finish. I couldn’t work for a lot of the time because of personal life, too. I suppose I’ll have to cross that out of the to do list next time :D.

I was looking forward for this one. Downloading now, I will try what you have made.

I’m in (probably)

This is going to be my second Ludum Dare, but I kind of failed last time – didn’t really finish it in time, and the idea wasn’t that good either. I hope that I will do better this year, because, in my opinion, I didn’t finish the last one becyse of lack of experience/practise. I have been learning a lot lately, so I hope I’ll do better.

Tools used:

  • Unity
  • GIMP
  • BFXR
  • Audacity
  • Autodesk Maya

Maybe a friend of mine will be helping me with textures/graphics/ideas, maybe I won’t be even participating, because I have a lot of things to do for school (scientific research + a few art projects), so I might be busy that weekend.

Midday 01

What a day. Almost nothing has been done, but I still woke up at 7 am (it started at 4 am in my time zone). I have ‘an’ idea, we’ll see how our plays out. Anyway, I’m thinking I’m going to finish this evening because I somehow ran out of inspiration to make this game. I’ll try to somewhat finish it, but workout pretty graphics, because my friend, who was supposed to help with graphics, isn’t helping.

Sorry, no screenshots, but if our helps the main characters name is Steven and the game is a 3D side scroller, with weird movement and the ability to stick to walls (unintentional).
