LD 38

I'm in!

Third time participating in LD and the last time I participated was LD34!!! But I'm in this time. I'll be updating my tumblr blog HERE periodically through the weekend instead of this one, though I may cross-post some.

LET'S GET IT ON!!!

Home stretch. Feeling good!

With just over 3 and a half hours to go I am pretty confident I'll be able to finish in time. All that is left to do is a start screen, level design and dialog writing!

Also.. It needs a name!

LD 39

I'm in!

With just a bit under 3 hours until LD39 and I'ma make it official. I'll be entering the comp, fo sho.

I think this time around I'll be using Unity '17.1, Paint/Paint.NET/Gimp, Blender, and Audacity/LMMS. I also think that I'm going to try and do a better job at documenting my progress on my main blog HERE if anyone's interested in peeping in!

Good luck to all!

Progress Update!

A lot of good progress has been made ladies and gents! We almost have a game.

screen1.png

If you'd like to follow more closely check out my BLOG.

Here is an excerpt describing the idea:

"The game will basically be a Master of Orion clone for toddlers, at least in comparison. You will start off located around a “home star” and everything is great! Except your civilization is quickly running out of power and you NEED to do something about it. So what do you do? You send ships to other near-by stars and strip them of all of the power, leaving them a bleak and empty husk before returning home to deliver all of that tasty power to the masses!

But it’s not that simple. Sending ships out into deep space costs power and the further away the destination star the more power that is needed. Eventually, like the vermin you are, your civilization will have devoured every last morsel of energy in your surrounding neighborhood and it will be time to pull up camp and set off for a new home star. This will cost a lot of power to transport your entire civilization 100s of lightyears, so again you must be careful. You can also have multiple home stars. More home stars mean larger energy reserves but also mean quicker energy depletion."

So there's the concept. Now to get 'er done!

Hope everyone else's projects are going smoothly! Good luck!

Progress Update #2!

So the game is finished essentially! Just a few odds and ends to tie together and I think it's a wrap!

screen.png

If you wanna check in more closely with the progress check out my BLOG!

I think that's a wrap!

I have to say this has been an extremely productive LD for me! I was able to get a basic gameplay loop that actually kinda works as well as some 3d modelling and voice overs! (Yes, my voice is in the game. shudders)

Now all that is really left to do is write up some instructions and post.

The basic premise is you control a galactic civilization that relies on consuming whole stars for their energy source! So you as the player send Harvester ships out to nearby stars to strip them of their energy. But stars only have a limited amount and eventually you will see yourself surrounded by a lot of empty stars unless you Inhabit other stars in the process.

It's really a game about expansion and trying to manage your energy resources.

Anyways, here are some screens to show off the game a bit. Good luck with the rest of the compo you all!

(Also, I need a name! So far I've been calling it "Power Insufficient" but that's lame... lol Open to suggestions!)

Now that the dust has settled...

...and the site seems to be stable if anyone would like to check out muh gamez the link is here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/power-insufficient

Great job everyone! And continued good luck to all you jammers out there!

Power Insufficient Post-Mortem

Whew! Finally had a bit of time today to write a quick post-mortem which you can read HERE!

screen4.png

Excerpt from blog post:

Power Insufficient is, at it’s core, probably closest related to 4X games such as Stellaris, Endless Space and (the only 4X game I’ve ever played, really) Master of Orion. Basically, you spend resources sending ships to certain locations to gather more resources so you can send more ships to more locations so that you can one day expand to rule the entire universe. At this super basic level I think the game succeeds. You can in fact spend resources to send ships to certain locations to gather more resources so that you can send more ships to more places and eventually expand your civilization throughout the universe.

Thanks to everyone who's played so far and left awesome feedback! I have quite a few ideas on how to improve the game for a post-compo version already because of you guys and gals!

If you haven't played the game yet and would like to try it out you can find it HERE!

To whom the Jam tolls.

I may have missed LD40 (D:) but I'm not missing the big 4-1! To stream or not to stream?

I'm late!

Haven't touched a line of code, painted a pixel or setup a melody but I got the theme when it was announced. It's a weird theme, ok?

The logical side of my brain thought, "But... if you combine 2 incompatible genres they aren't incompatible.." but the other side slapped the logical side across it's cerebral cortex and told it to get it's act together, this is show biz.

I do have some ideas I'm just letting them stew. Next time you hear from me hopefully I'll have something to show!

Good luck, everyone!

Didn't make the Compo... =(

But I might still be able to make the Jam, if just. Wasn't able to work on my game at all yesterday however I got a lot of work done on it Friday night.

I could explain what the game is about but I'd rather show you all. So here's to a final sprint! =D

But here is a screenshot of what I have so far. Doesn't look like much.. but can anyone guess the two genres I chose?

ld41_screen.png

It's submitted.

I'm not super happy with it but what can you do when you only get in total about 8-10 hours of work, if that..

It was still super fun and hopefully next LD I'll have more time!
