Taking the plunge

Its just over an hour until show time and I have no idea what to expect! Going to participate in the Compo for the first time. I'll be using Unity as my engine, Gimp for textures, FLStudio for music and sfxr for sounds. I might use Blender if I decide to go the 3D route but I doubt it. Most of the themes left me a bit clueless so here's hoping that its a good one...Good luck to everyone competing!

Day 1 progress

Here is a little screenshot of what I managed to put together last night. I have the city being randomly generated and a car that you can drive around town. You can open up the map at stop signs which shows where you are as well as the important locations.

Demo build available!

Hi everyone, hope the jam is going well for you!

I figured I would throw a build of what I had so far up on my website if anybody is interested. http://www.shorremccolman.com/deliverydrain

The basic idea is that you will need to use your map to navigate around the city collecting resources at the locations marked with F and deliver them to the proper locations marked with D. You can only open your map at a stop signs or at pickup/dropoff locations. No real win/lose state or anything right now but its a start!

WASD to control the car. Just press W before you drive by the front of a pickup/dropoff to park there.

Nearing the end of round 2...

The night is almost coming to an end. Welp. Well at least things seem to be coming together. Not sure I will have time to implement most of the cooler features I thought of but I think the core gameplay will be solid for the deadline. Here is an updated screenshot.

7 Hours left! Test build.

Hey everyone. With only 7 hours left I imagine most of us are scrambling. So why not a quick distraction? I just put an updated build of my game on my website here. http://www.shorremccolman.com/deliverydrain

WASD to control the car. W to park your car at a pickup or dropoff location. Note that you cant actually win yet, the deliveries will not register on the bottom. LD396.PNG

Feeling the theme...

Now that things are back to normal on the site, here is my submission...

This was my first ludum dare but it will not be my last. I honestly had even more fun than I was expecting! While my game may be lacking some of the features I had wanted to implement on day 1, I managed to realize my initial vision very well! I beat the hard difficulty with 1% battery life left so I think I've even got the balancing right. Overall, 10/10 would ludum dare again. I'm excited to see what everyone else managed to come up with!

Second try

This will be my second Ludum Dare. I participated in the LD39 Compo with my game Delivery Drain but this time around I will be working with my brother in the Jam. We don't have a concrete plan but we want to make something in 3D. Unity, Blender, Gimp, FL Studio and BFXR will be the majority of the tools that we use. We will probably build it for html5 and host it on my website like last time.

Some of the themes reminded us of some rough game ideas that we've had in the past. If we're lucky we might get a chance to finally build one of them. Does anybody else use Ludum Dare as an excuse to try old game ideas or does everyone prefer to come up with a new idea on the spot?

Manifold Complex released!

Our game Manifold Complex is now available for download on Windows! Its a 3-dimensional space shooter in the style of the old pc game descent. As you upgrade your ship, the security drones become more hostile. Escape the complex and find all of the hidden items!

3rd times the charm?

I guess I'm going in for number 3! The change in start time is a big unfortunate cause I'm still working when it starts but it shouldn't be the end of the world. Not a huge fan of the theme selection but there are some workable ones in there. My previous two games were met with a fairly lukewarm reception so I'm really going to focus on the fun factor this time around. Good luck to all of the competitors, I look forward to playing some games!
