Ludum Dare 47

First draft of Uróboro's Guardian

Hello!

My name's Tomás, and this will be my first LD Jam!

It was a rough start trying to think something with the theme, but I think I managed to think of something nice.

As a programmer, the theme made me think of infinite loops, and going with that idea I remembered about the Uroboros. The Uroboro is a symbol represented by a serpent or a dragon eating its own tail, and interpreted as the infinite cycle of everything, so I wanted to base my game on that idea.

So you will play as an spiritual being: the Uroboro's Guardian, fighting against evil entities that are trying to break that cycle and destroy the fabric of space and time.

Here is a quick draft of the Guardian on top of the Uroboro, and the enemies aproaching to destroy it:

You will get "spiritual points" and use those to improve your tools and to spawn improvements like shields and "spiritual turrets" to help you protect the Uroboro.

And here is the first draft of the game:

I already have the movement down and the basic "spiritual shooting".

Hope I can add most of the features I planned, and to be able to get the art style to where I want it.

Good luck to you all! See ya' later!

Uroboro's Guardian Released!

Hello, all!

Here you have my entry for the Jam: Uroboro's Guardian!

The Uroboros represent the infinite loop of life and death. You’ll play as the Guardian of an Uroboro that is being attacked by evil entities to affect the cycle of lyfe in the Universe. See how long you’re able to protect and share your High score!

You can play and rate the game here:

I'm really happy with a lot of things on this game:

  1. The art: I really liked how the hand drawn art style turned out. I'm specially happy for the Uroboro's design.
  2. The mechanics: I thought they were simple enough when I designed them, but they took me a lot of time. I think they turned out good and I learned a lot. I really liked the rotation of the Uroboro, and how the player looks while walking around it.
  3. Input: It supports a controller!!! It might sound dumb, but playing my game with an XBox controller was really satisfying haha.

What I don't like:

  1. The animations: Even though I think everything looks good, I also think it is pretty static. But I couldn't afford to animate more things on the given deadline.
  2. The music and sfx: I opt out of the sound ratings because I knew they were going to be hard for me, as I don't make music or sfx. I kinda rushed to find some music, and not everything has a distinct sfx as I would like.

I hope you enjoy the game!

(And I can sleep now)

Bye!
