LD 38

Progess looks good

While Zeknir is doing the Sprites for all other 17 plants I did the basic gameplay code. Currently you can grow three different flowers with the right soils. All six soils are implemented. If you do something wrong (grow a not known flower or do something wrong with the soil) you will get withered plant. Next up I will implement rest of the flowers. Then we need the UI and the achivment system. Here some photos of the current gamestate: Imgur

More Progress

While Zeknir is still doing the sprites, I started to implement more plants into a JSON File.... Lot to write and it will be a long long long file...

Progess will be saved

After the whole day of programming (and @Zeknir drawing) our game is good in time. Now there are 20 plants fully implmentet, the plant-o-pedia nearly finished and the progess of the game will be saved localy. After dinner we will continue with the UI.

Core Game finished

Our small world in a jar is basicly done. With 20 flowers and 6 soils implemented (and esay to extend). Goal of the game is to unlock all 20 flowers only with 4 flowers from the beginning. If you don't know how to get the next flower you can look for some help in the plant-o-pedia.

Time for polishing

After some ours of sleep we start with the polishing. We added some animations and update the UI. We are currently adding some sounds but you can't hear sounds in GIF :sweat_smile:

Fancy animations and a tutorial

Since the last post we added some new animations for growing, droping water and a lightbeam. Also we added all sounds. Finally we finished the tutorial so that everyone understands our weird little game. :sweat_smile:

After getting the 10 place last time, we try it again!

Try out our last game (Ludum Dare 38 Entry): A World in a Jar

Insert Game Title here - Some Spaceship or something

This time we went on fast with work out our idea. We finished our idea in under 50 min. (30 min faster then the last time)
Our basic idea is that you controlling a spaceship and must managing the systems to survive and must fly to your home world but you can visit different planets to collect resources (metal to repair your ship, foot and ice (to produce water) for your crew) because they also running out. So you need to manage to get everything and don't run out of anything. You can visit different planetary systems and in this systems you can fly to all planets with a good maneuver. More about that in future blog posts.

While @Zeknir is playing god and generate the universe I finished the User Interface.

Random is AWESOME! Random Encounters are in the Game

When you orbit a planet random encounters can appear. There can be a trader how offers you a trade or enemy spaceships you must battle.

Orbiting Home - Orbiting further

Now, nearly two weeks after LD39 we are finished with planning for turning Orbiting Home into a full game. We will extend the content, add new elements in space like black holes or space stations etc. We will rewrite the whole simulation and improve it to a higher level. The topic "Running out of Power" continue as a main part of the game but you can recharge your power supplies. The biggest change will be that the game will be completely moddable. Modder can add new Sprites, Sounds, Data with JSON and Scripts with C#. This scripts will be compiled at runtime. Many more features will be reviled later.
