LD 44

I'm in! First LD

Going straight for the Compo, because why not? Hopefully all my studying paid off.

  • Unity (https://github.com/Sonolil)
  • Photoshop
  • FL Studio 20 & (sfxr / bfxr)

I do have a homemade engine but it's not fully ready yet to make a game. In the meanwhile I'll be using an engine I'm already familiar with, with a lot of base code.

Oh well, it's my first try..

This is all I have. Not what I expected. Bit off more than I can chew I suppose.

It's not over yet.

Decided to opt out of Compo

  1. It's my first time doing LD and I underestimated the time pressure.
  2. I can't think of anything good related to the theme.
  3. I need a new cleaner art style pronto
  4. But I want to finish a game.

So I'm gearing towards Jam with an extra 12 hours. Couldn't say I didn't expect this but kinda bummed out. But it's a fresh new start.

Mid Progress

LD44.png

Started entirely from scratch mid today. I'm going to have to come up with the rest of the game mechanics tomorrow.

I uploaded the build.

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/44/Life-Exchange Here's the entire code to meet the deadline. It might take only a while to get the browser working since I'm completely new to this but in any case I made it!

I had a lot of fun (Lifeheart Exchange)

I have finally finished everything. I was late for my submission so please consider my first LD as a sort of a test run rather than an official sign up. But even though I was late the game itself was made within 72 hours and I learned a lot in the last 3 days.

I made a game that is a prototype of the kind of adventure games I used to play as a game and wanted to play. This was my first time attempting build at least a semblance of a dungeon.

Things to consider for the next LD: - Focus on the main base game and then proceed to polish it - Pixel art takes as much time if not more than regular art. Specialize in an art style in advance - Prepare tons of more base code and mend the rough edges of your skills and engine related knowledge base - Do not underestimate the time it takes to build, error-check, and publishing the game

Again, I had tons of fun. Enter the link below to play the game. I hope to join in the next LD as well !!

Is it okay if I keep updating my game?

I'd like to fix a couple of minor/major errors and make some changes based on player input. I'm wondering about this considering the rules. I know the Jam is much lenient than the Compo but still. I did see somewhere I can keep polishing the game if I want but I'm not sure if that's after or before the "results" month.

I might upload a walkthrough video too after everything's said and done.

I'm in

I couldn't participate last october because I broke my spine badly last year. I'm still healing so I'm not in the greatest condition, but I'm still signing up. I was going to use my own engine but it's not usable yet so I've been warming up with Unity again.

It was a really hectic year... I'm just chiming in without much expectations. On the upside I really like the themes this compo so there's that.

  • Engine: Unity (VS 2019, .Net v4.72)
  • Sound: Sfxr, FL Studio
  • Art : Aesprite, Photoshop

I already have an idea.

Turns out it's the same idea I've always had.

Compared to LD44 which took a whole day to come up with an idea LOL... my good feelings are right.

I'm just take a quick refresher outside before I start with the mechanics.

Ugh my back is finally taking its toll on me

I'm honestly doing better than my first time but I still need a lot more time to do everything I want. And now I'm forced to take a break because of my condition..

I gotta find a way to cut things down somehow.

Alright last spurt people

In my bed because my back is beginning to hate me right now, but that's okay I'm not planning to sleep tonight.

I finally got the game framework covered. It just needs a little polish and I haven't even touched the sounds yet.

Only 7 more hours to go go go

Crimp

Alright this is my second Jam... half an hour late for Compo. I'm satisfied with this one.

I forgot how to format my texts. Will be uploading the source code soon.

Had great fun and hope to play more games here.

Should I change my Compo to Jam?

I signed up for Compo but my Jam version is significantly more playable than my Compo version.

Should I just give up Compo and go for Jam instead? Is it possible?
