First Steps
We decided to use pico8 because it's easy to throw things together.
Already got maps and tile metadata implemented, now for flow fields.

The original idea where you stop giant monsters from destroying cities is gone because we realised it didn't at all fit within the theme, this seemed to fit better.
you start with NO CANDY!
you must get MANY CANDY!

Just some of the stuff isn't working yet. For example, the battle system only has commands and enemy AI partially implemented and the 'thugs' (other trick or treaters) only have 1 type and just sorta phase through the player right now...

Soon though... soon...

23 Hours Remain.
Unfortunately I won't be able to use all 23 of those hours to finish the game code (in particular the turn-based battle system which in hindsight was probably not the best idea). But it is shaping up nicely, and most of the spritework is already done.

So hopefully, the last couple hours will be relaxed polish rather than a psychotic dash to the end.
Time to make the most of the last few hours

My slap-dash 'framework' for loading in screens and setting up data has come back to bite me in the ass, as now I must manually set 5+ variables before calling for a scene change otherwise risk crashing or desyncing the music...
But... it works well enough that I'm not going to go back and change things, especially with only 9.5 hours left.
Let this be a lesson in planning.
Just fixing a few bugs, but it's actually surprisingly fun!

You'll be able to play "Candy For Nothing" in just a few hours
I tried to make them sound cool but also remain open enough to have different interpretations.
Not going to be in the final game of course, I just needed something off my desktop to test the lighting with
Unity's new URP 2d Lighting really helps to set an eerie mood.
Enemies! Pathfining!! Items!!! Fire!!!!
Oh boy this is a little more work than I initially thought. I think it's doable though.

The name is still pending.

20 hours til the end of the jam

But it is extremely pretty!

Don't mind the placeholder buttons
This game was a bigger task than we thought it would be.
Graphics, Wonderful
Gameplay, Theoretically good
Levels?... uh.... that's the issue.
Some of the mechanics are actually not bad, and most of the missing stuff can actually be found in the source code and re-enabled. That said, I would hesitate to call this a 'game'

Enemy AI was involved in a tragic spaghetti incident. That said, the game is done!
