My game has been finished and uploaded! Actually that happened a few hours ago, but I forgot about making this post until now.

The game is a fairly simple platformer called “Duckling” where you play as a duckling who has been left behind by it’s mother and is now ALONE. Kind of lame use of the theme, I know. However, this is my first LD entry so I tried to make it simple. I hope the game is still somewhat enjoyable, though.

In response to this challenge to Christmas-ify your game, I decided to add some Christmas things to my entry, Duckling.

The ground is covered in snow, the mother duck has a Santa hat and the ducklings have elf hats (including the player), the egg you respawn out of is gift wrapped, and there are other modifications as well. You can play it here.

Now you can admire the Christmas atmosphere as the poor duckling is repeatedly impaled on spikes.

I’ve been making effort to play a significant amount of games, and to complete, rate, and comment on every one that works on my computer. So far I’ve rated 55 games, while mine has been rated 26 times. I find it really cool to see how many different ways the theme is interpreted by different people. Anyway, I since the rating thing is almost over, I’ve decided to share a few of the games I really liked. I’ll try to talk about games that I found myself, rather than ones people have mentioned before.

Paper Dream

My favourite thing about this game is the art style. The hand drawn style adds a lot of charm to the game. Especially notable is the way the player character moves – He really does seem like he’s made of paper. You kind of have to play the game to see what I mean by that. The goal is also quite neat. You must tasks to please various objects in the environment. For example, take a starfish from the sea and put it next to actual stars. Or, you can fly around for a bit. It’s an enjoyable experience either way.

 First

The concept of is this game is sort of odd. You’re a, er, floaty thing that must make other floaty things appear by collecting pellets that are drifting around. Soon viruses appear and you must fend them off so that your race may survive. It’s surprisingly enjoyable and satisfying slowy filling the world up with your floaty friends. The visuals, music, and even the the floaty controls all add to the feeling this game provides. The atmosphere within the game is done excellently. It’s difficult to explain exactly how, so just go play it.

A Life Apart

In this game you play a sort of ghost of someone who hasn’t been a nice person in life, and must now help people out in order to compensate for the bad things he has done. Or something like that. The main focus of this game is the narrative it takes you on about this guy’s quest for redemption. I’m not sure if “alone” is an accurate theme, but the story ends up being very deep and emotional, which is enhanced by the atmosphere the graphics and sounds provide.

So, that’s it. Just a few of the many amazing games that I really enjoyed. I would have liked to included more here but I’m quite tired as I’m about to go to sleep, so this will have to do. Duckling

This is literally the most perfect game in existence. Amazing gameplay, excellent graphics, great sounds, and a compelling storyline, there’s nothing this game doesn’t have. Okay, just kidding!

I created a web version of my game "Supernova" fairly recently, just in case anyone is interested. The game is a platformer in which you must make your way to the center of a solar system to blow up a star.

A World in Her Eye

This was the very first game I played, and it's still one of the best. It’s a short adventure game with some nice atmosphere, charming story, and even multiple endings.

Daily Routine

This game features a few mini-games as a "daily routine". It has a very nice visual presentation and some amusing moments, with some additional twists I don’t want to spoil. You’ll just have to play it yourself to see.

Little Lands

A very well put together resource management/strategy game that sees you trying to collect enough resources to build a ship while fending of enemies. This is overall just a very polished and enjoyable game.

Colorfly

The gameplay isn’t super exciting, but this game has some beautiful music and visuals that lead to a wonderful overall experience.

Timeless

A nice little platform/puzzle game that has a mechanic of switching between two different versions of each level. I especially like the apples that you can collect for an extra challenge.

Hopper

This game involves jumping between various planets to reach the end of each level. The visual style looks great and the introduction of new mechanics is well paced.

Tiny Terraformer

This game tasks you with taking care of a planet to make it habitable when people arrive. It takes some clever resource management to make a good planet, and I really like how it comments on the quality of your planet at the end.

Let's be happy in our small world

A very charming game in which you need to watch carefully to determine who committed heinous crimes such as disturbing a sleeping cat. It starts simple but quickly gets quite challenging.

Dr. Plumb

A simple yet enjoyable puzzle game where you need to direct blood flow from the heart and through various organs. The presentation here is nice and adds to the mood of the game.

Transistor Soup

The presentation is basic, but I really enjoyed this circuitry puzzle game. It can take a bit to understand the basics but once you do its satisfying coming up with solutions to each task.
