So, we have crossed the finish line and were able to ship a game.
This was my first Jam - I learned a ton and had a great time doing it.
Some personal reflections from me, in no particular order:
Level design - this took a bit of a back seat while we were finding our flow, and we would have benefitted from taking a step back to focus on level design. Even some simple hand-drawn levels set as a texture on the ground plane with blockouts would have been a good first step.
Audio - I really enjoyed working on some of the audio components for the game. It's been a long time since I have done anything with audio, so was fun to get back into it. You can get to something workable pretty quickly in Audacity, and the BBC sound archive has some great content to start from and layer effects to create what you want.
Gameplay - I'm a bit torn on this, the environment and ambience did a lot of the heavy lifting in the game and I'm glad we got this to the state we did, but it would have been worth getting the core gameplay and enjoyability sorted before dipping too much into the rest. It wasn't too hard to build in later, but I think we would have had a better feel of the game and be better at prioritising features if sorted this earlier.
Co-Lo - We made really good progress on the days we were all together and would definitely want to do more of that in future.
Clashes with source control using Godot - We ran into some conflicts as we worked on our main scene in Godot. In future we would consider a different architecture to avoid conflicts whilst still being able to work in parallel.
Overall I really enjoyed my first LD, and learned loads. I hope you enjoy our game!
