Yesterday’s progress
Couldn’t post it since the site was down.

There’s a lot more progress now, of course. The game is almost finished, so…

Now the progress I made yesterday.

Aaaand demo: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18105137/scrash.exe
I have submitted my entry already, let’s see if I can make the game better in time. 😀
Just 3 minutes before deadline!

For more information about the game, visit the entry.
I still could do the game better, anyway. Escape pod’s graphics are… Well, they could be better. Also the game is too short IMO. However, I’m fine with what I made. Well, it’s still my first LD. 😀
I hope I won’t mess up this time.
I won’t livestream the whole thing, but I think I’ll make a timelapse out of it. I’ll use The Games Factory 2 again… I know how to do programming a bit, but I don’t think it’s enough to make a game quickly enough. Weekend is a short time, after all 😛
I didn’t participate in LD Warmup, though. I’m not that obsessed to win (even if it wasn’t Notch… He participated in other Ludum Dare competitions and there are people that still do their games without their warmup)… Even though, it would be good to actually make a GOOD quality game this time. Especially with balanced difficulty. I always have problems with that. :/
I’ll download and check the tools for timelapsing two, one day before the event.
I wish myself good luck. If you want to, you can wish me it too.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, the game I’ll make for LD#22 will be my 2nd Ludum Dare entry. If I finish it, of course.
hopefully you’ll come up with something sweetMy preparations are done. I think. 😀
I googled around for like 20 minutes until I found an application which would fit my timelapsing desires. It has screen choosing, hard drive space checking, CPU monitoring, and all that awesome stuff that I won’t use anyway (except for the first one I mentioned), but oh well 😛
So… There’s the list of programs I’ll use:
Game making: The Games Factory 2
Graphics: The Games Factory 2/Paint.NET (depending on how complex the sprite is)
Sounds: sfxr
Music: Probably no music again, I’ll try to add some sounds in background instead (birds, winds etc.). If desperate, I’ll find a free, easy to use midi program.
Timelapsing: TimeSnapper Professional
Also, I like the themes in Final Round… Especially kittens. That means I won’t spend a lot of time trying to find any ideas for my game 😀
It will be platformer again… But this time, there are a few things different:
– Scrolling is centered around the player, not just “split” into screens
– You can shoot bullets
So… There’s the progress:

Added cave tiles and liquids. Toxic water kills you.
Downloadable link: Here!

After all, I have the whole second day to finish off this game.

And yeah, I added lots of different stuff:
– Dropping water from the ceiling,
– Game asks you if you want to restart when you die,
– You can now collect grey and green plates,
– Shootable flies. They can kill you,
– A checkpoint. When you enter it, your plate collection is saved and you don’t need to collect them again when you die.
That’s a great progress in my opinion! I hope I’ll finish it for tomorrow.
…and again, it could be better. But this time, I guess it ended up even better than on previous compo.

Entry: !!!HERE!!!
I’ll upload the timelapse this week (it’s Monday there right now, so :P).
What can I say about the game itself? Well, there are few things I wanted to add to the game but I just couldn’t, because of the time limit. They were just little stuff, eyecandies, but still.
However, I managed to add other stuff I wanted to include, like cards, doors, liquids or rain (which I just love doing – however, I couldn’t change the volume somehow, even when I was setting it up in the editor). Also, if you want my explanation about the lack of variety of enemies… Well, to be honest, I just hadn’t any ideas about them D:
But anyway, SLEEP TIME.
As you may know (or not), I used TimeSnapper for timelapsing. However, for some reason, all these screenies cannot be used in my video editing software, because of some “missing file” issues when I select all of these. :/
Well, now at least I know that I should test my software even better. :U
Also, I was thinking if I should continue developing my game. The truth is, I want to abandon TGF2 in favor of C++. You know what that means for my game.
Well, I still have time to think about it. Not that I have a deadline now anyway 😛
And again, entry: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-22/?action=preview&uid=3133 (for those who are curious what I am talking about)
TGF2 again. No C++… but oh well, does it really matter?
Stuff I’ll be using:
– The Games Factory 2 for the game itself, as usual. <3
– sfxr, not going to explain on it as well… Everyone here knows that’s a sound editor, right? 😉
– Paint.NET for some advanced graphical stuff I’ll be making.
– Music… uhhh? Never made any, not going to try until the LD is done as well.
– Timelapsing… Chronolapse sounds good, but Fraps also is able to do it. I’ll see.
– Livestreaming? No. My PC can’t handle it. Sorry guys!
And yeah, I’ll be doing 48h again… Maybe I’ll do Jam if I won’t get in time with my entry. That will be my third time participating.
Also going to do the daily demos again 😀 Maybe even more frequently, I’ll see.
Also, there should be a Ludum Dare 10th Anniversary theme. No idea what I would make for that, though. 😀
Just because you can’t screenshot your desktop with Fraps. It works only for games.
Anyway, gonna sleep soon. Sleep is important, so yeah… See ya tomorrow, when everything starts
No idea what I will make yet… But this is going to be interesting!
(and I just woke up)
And some progress.
The engine is still lacking… graphics. But hey, it works!
Download build 1
Features:
– Shooting (with working cooldown)
– Walls that you can’t go through (you can still leave the playing area, though)
– Example enemy (that does nothing, but you can kill him)
Another build coming!
– Level Generator!
– Upon pressing Q your level shrinks a bit (may be glitchy yet)
– Added breakable walls
– Example enemy now takes 3 hits to kill
SHIFT to shoot, arrow keys to move.
Build spamming 😛
– New graphics
– Red walls now can take 5 hits before they are destroyed.
– Added enemy AI (which sucks 😉
– Added enemies to map generator
– Changed enemy sprites
– Changed bullet sprites
– Added HUD
– Enemies hurt you
– Temporary invulnerability when hurt/at start
Added yellow pads. If you get all the pads, you win
(theoretically – don’t try getting the last pad if you don’t want to exit your game through Task Manager)
If anyone finds any bugs, let me know
PS.: Having a little break right now, game making can really mess your mind up… 😀
I have the whole game done (just without sounds, menus and complete HUD), and I only spent one day on it. Just… wow. 😮
Anyway, gonna finish it tomorrow…
– Fixed at least 5 bugs, including the one with crash at the end
– Blue walls are now destroyable (they can take 15 hits, red ones can only take one)
And I still don’t have a name for my game. 😀
Yeah. Last day.
Let’s just finish it.
