I'm in! My first Ludum Dare

Hi! This will be my first Ludum Dare and I'm not sure what to expect. I'm not even sure if I signed for it correctly. If I'm writing this does it mean I signed up, right?

Anyways, this is what I plan to use:

  • RPG Maker MV (I wont be doing an RPG, I'll just use it to program a platformer or top-down something in JavaScript).
  • Photoshop for art and maybe GIMP for pixel sprites.
  • A very old Bamboo Connect to draw something.
  • SFXR, I heard about this a couple days ago and it seems great.
  • Audacity, to edit and convert audio.
  • Maybe I'll record my screen with OBS Studio.

I read someone suggested that we should post our goals. But I really don't know what to expect, this is my second jam and maybe I'll be releasing my second game ever. I'm pretty new at this.

First prototype

My prototype graphics are super minimalist. The explosion and the emoji are stock graphics, the rest are just squares, lol. I can't work like this, I think I'll make some decent graphics before continue.

When do we start playing games?

Well, it's done. And it wasn't as bad as I expected. I thought I would be dying by now, but I kinda want to continue. Do we start playing games right now?

My First LD results, not happy at all =/

I didn't know what to expect since the beginning, but top 200 of 10000 is kinda depressing, lol.

Anyways, I still need a lot of practice, this was my second try at making a game (first doing it alone), and I learned a lot, but I still have even more to learn to make decent games.

Oh, and thanks to everyone who played my game and rated it. That was by far the most exiting part of it, for me.

I'll be drowning my sorrows in D&D today until my hands hurt of throwing dice =(

I'm in

My second try at Ludum Dare. This time I like most of the themes. At least I don't think there's any theme that works against your game like LD40's =/

Good luck to everyone!

LD 42

Am I too late?

I don't even know what the theme is yet, but I'll give it a try again.

Ludum Dare 45

I'm in again!

And this time I'll finish the game, I promise! haha

I did a game!

It's a very simple game, but at least I did something!

Ludum Dare 47

My 5th Ludum Dare, and hopefully my 3rd game!

I'm more exited and readier than before. I'm also eager to play other's games. My plan this time is to have a scope extremely small, if it works and have time I'll add something else. And then polish it with the rest of the time.

What I'll be using:

  • Engine: RPG Maker (it's not going to be an RPG, I use it for its top down movement and because I can program in javascript with it).
  • Code editor: Atom.
  • Art & Animation: Pixelorama
  • Maybe art too: Pencil/scaner/Krita (if I have time)
  • Music: Abundant Music
  • Sound Fx: sfxr

I'm aiming for the Compo, but since I don't have time constraints this time, is I don't finish it I'll take one more day ans send it to the Jam.

Now I'll just make my drawing of the day for the #drawtober while waiting for the time to arrive.

I did it! My game for the Compo!

In the the last two Ludum Dare I couldn't finish my games, I'm really glad I could make something again. The scope of the game was growing and growing until I had to remove parts, it always happens, lol. You can try the game, it's a short top-down puzzle adventure or something.

Loop Jumper!

This is what I used

  • Engine: RPG Maker.
  • Code editor: Atom.
  • Pixel Art: Krita
  • Music: Abundant Music
  • Sound Fx: sfxr

Hopefully it wont be too bugged.

Now I'm ready to play some games!

Ludum Dare 49

I'm in! My 5th Ludum Dare

For years now I have only made any game development during Ludum Dare, so it's a special weekend for me. I missed it last time, I remembered when it had finished =/

But this time I'm prepared since the beginning, and for the first time I finished the Theme Slaughter round!

What I’ll be using:

  • Engine: RPG Maker (maybe, for the first time I'll use it to actually make an RPG, I normally use it just for its top-down movement).
  • Code editor: Atom.
  • Art & Animation: Pixelorama
  • Maybe art too: Pencil/scaner/Krita (if I have time)
  • Music: Abundant Music
  • Sound FX: sfxr

Exactly the same as the last time, but with rustier skills, lol.

As always, I’m aiming for the Compo.

  • My favorite theme: Summoning
  • My least favorite: Unstable
  • But all are terrible  (I didn't know I could use smileys here)

But regardless of the theme...

My game will have

  • Robots. Because I like them.
  • Pixel art. Because that's what I can do with the time.
  • An ending screen. That will be your reward for finishing it.
  • I'm planning to use the theme to create the story, instead of the game mechanics.

Tips for newcomers

A few things I have learned from before, that might be of some help, specially if you are new at this type of jams.

  • First make your scope really small, try the minimum that could make a game fun to play.
  • Test it with minimum graphics, if you run out of time, those graphics would be enough, really.
  • After you made sure its fun, if you still have time, then try to polish it with nice simple graphics, sound effects and music.
  • After you have a short little game that is fun and looks good, if you still have time, then make it longer.
  • If you are doing the compo and for some reason run out of time, join the Jam. You can use stock graphics and music, so it will end up looking better and you have 24 extra hours to finish it.

Yes, all of this is very basic, but I didn't think about it when I joined Ludum Dare for the first time.

Good luck to everybody and have fun!

Ludum Dare 51

I'm in!

Let's try to finish the game this time :]

Ludum Dare 54

I'm in again, this time I'll finish it!

I've entered about 5 Ludum Dare so far, and I've only finished 3 of them.

This is my 6th so I can't let the unfinished one catch up :warning:

What I’ll be using:

-Engine: RPG Maker (maybe, for the first time I’ll use it to actually make an RPG, I normally use it just for its top-down movement).

  • Code editor: Sublime Text.
  • Art & Animation: Pixelorama/Photoshop
  • Maybe art too: Pencil/scanner/Krita (if I have time)
  • Music: Abundant Music
  • Sound FX: sfxr Exactly the same as the last time, but with rustier skills, lol.

As always, I’m aiming for the Compo.

  • My favorite theme: Paths
  • My least favorite: Folklore

But all are terrible

But regardless of the theme…

My game will have

-Robots. Because I like them. -Pixel art. Because that’s what I can do with the time. -An ending screen. That will be your reward for finishing it. -I’m planning to use the theme to create the story, instead of the game mechanics.

Ludum Dare 58

My 9th Ludum Dare, maybe my 4th finished game...

...and also, my first time in The Jam instead of the The Compo, just because I want the extra 24 hours.

What I’ll be using:

  • Engine: RPG Maker (maybe, this time I'll actually make an RPG instead of just a topdown platformer).

  • Code editor: Sublime Text.

  • Art & Animation: Pixel Studio/Photopea
  • Maybe art too: Pencil/scanner
  • Music: Abundant Music
  • Sound FX: sfxr

My favorite theme: Ruins My least favorite: Keep it together

But all are terrible

And as always, regardless of the theme, my game will have...

  • Robots. Because I like them.

  • Pixel art. Because that’s what I can do with the time.

  • An ending screen. That will be your reward for finishing it.

  • I’m planning to use the theme to create the story, instead of the game mechanics.
