xilefian

LD22

Hopefully Xilefian will be in

I’ll be using C++, the main language I use.

Probably will use the Allegro library as I love it so much, I dislike SDL and I haven’t yet learnt hardware acceleration so Allegro is great for me.

Specialise in raycaster engines, so don’t be surprised if I make one, I may even use my xicast engine, if not possible then I’ll be going with something else, I’m not great with art, or music at that, so will probably go with the obnoxious artsy-fartsy games that are all popular these days.

Will be livestreaming here http://www.livestream.com/xilefian

May have to drop out if life gets in the way (It’s nearly Christmas so it probably will :c ) but this will be my first one so I’ll try my hardest to stick in!

Project Start

So I made a simple character for the hero, and a test room that they can walk around.

The idea is use the gameboy palette to capture darkness and make a game set in an empty museum. That is all I have right now.

Here’s a shot of my current WIP. The engine is what’s taking the most time so far.

Need to fill the room with props but…I’m not an artist! It’s taking ages just to do graphics, so I’m going to work on the world itself a bit more.

Will add sounds next!

Alpha Demo

This is a proof of concept showing, just to prove that it works.

Controls:
Arrows – Move
X – Investigate
Z – Sprint
A – Use slot 1
S – Use slot 2
D – Hold for inventory (Use arrows to select items, A and S sets to slots, Z drops)

Comments would be great thanks!

I’m impressed. The perspective especially is quite nice, and contrasts well with the old-school color scheme. I’d make the collision on the player character half as tall, or add a visual bump for collision- I kept getting stuck in doors while trying to go past them (like the one at the top left of the screen, if I went a little too far up and thus into the door, I’d get stuck trying to go right).

Game Code Finished!

Excellent, it’s finished!

Came up with a game title too:

WEIRDLY ALONE.

Good, isn’t it?

Time to start on making levels, art and fun stuff.

EDIT: Forgot to add this –

Content creation progress

I overslept, doh! But getting things done is, well, getting done.

I’m at the moment trying to figure out some puzzles and ways to keep the game from being monotonous as well as come up with inventory items that are there to literally take up space.

Hopefully I’ll hit the deadline.

Oh gosh

Finally submitted the finished thing!

Ending was a bit rushed, but the cat easter egg is just how I want it to be, simple, but ridiculous :)
