I’m in, Second Ludum Dare, First time Compo

This is going to be my second Ludum Dare, however this is the first time I’m doing the compo. I’m pretty excited to flex my own abilities and see how far I can get. Working in a team last time was fun but we got off task a lot :p

Engine: I’ll probably either use Game Maker 8.1 or Unity 3.5.

I use Unity more but I find that I can prototype 2D games faster in GM. Also, the pixel collisions are cleaner. Next time I’ll probably delve into Java.

Good Luck everyone :)

First 3 hours of work.

I worked on the game on Friday for 3 hours. I got a good chunk of it done. I completed:

-Drag select

-GML pathfinding grid

-GML collision avoidance

-Basic combat

-Basic unit stats

Almost there

In the home stretch now. I have to add more polish and more units but that should be easy with the system I’ve built in Game Maker. I’m surprised how much I can get out of it.

Sandbox RTS almost done!

Chrome not playing nice with Funkytron

Hey guy, I’m about an hour into my Charity Game Jam game and I’ve tried running my HTML5 project in the funkytron. I’m using Game Maker: Studio Professional with the HTML5 plugin. For some reason, when running it in a chrome browser I get weird effects like scrollbars and blurry sprites:

However running it in Firefox is fine. Anyone else have similar problems? Or is it just how chrome works?

I have issues with the funkytron as well, but I’m coding in flash.

running my html5 game in Chrome and don’t see the problems (on OSX, so that might be another difference)

Try this:

Super Net Hackers – Update

Hey guys, things are going great. I’m about halfway done on the game and with sleep, I’ll have about 8 hours on Sunday to finish. I still have to finish level selection, more levels, and a merchant screen to buy in-game upgrades but I think I will get it done.

Here’s a progress shot:

You can play the test build here: Play

P.S. I recommend running it in Firefox, Chrome has weird scroll bars.

Very nice! I really like the screen for choosing your controls, it’s very elegant.

Very, very cool looking. Lovin’ it already!

Super Net Hackers – Complete!

I finally got the game done and submitted with 20 minutes to spare! I had a really fun time making the game as always. The game came out great and I only cut a few things from the final version.

Here’s an in action shot:

You can try out the game here: Play and on the Charity Game Jam site.

I recommend Firefox because the sounds don’t work in Chrome >:(

Good Job Everyone! :)

Here’s another chance for me to improve my skillz. I’ve completed the previous LD’s, #23,24 and 25. I’m looking forward to creating something even better this time around. My personal goal this time will be to try to incorporate sound and music!

Tools: Gamemaker Studio Pro, Gimp, Audacity, Bfxr, and LMMS.

Good Luck everyone!

Saturday Progress Report

Die alien scum!

Die alien scum!

Here’s a current progress shot of my game. I’ve gotten the basic gameplay down and some pretty good looking art. I plan to add more enemies and levels today. On Sunday I’ll add sound, music, and polish up the menu’s and such.  The gameplay consists of having a limited number of shots to kill all the aliens. However, the blasts require a charge time and they can also blow down walls to provide new routes.

The game is turning out really great and I can’t wait to finish it! :)

Escape Shaft is done!

The game came out amazingly well and I’m really happy with the final product. I even included sounds and music! :)

This is my best Ludum Dare entry yet. I can’t wait until next time when it’ll be even better! Feel free to check it out here: Play

I’m in again, Le’ go!

I’m pretty excited, I have a new laptop to gamedev on. Gonna be using Game Maker Studio like always. Everyone good luck! :)

Progess

Here’s a progress shot so far. After about 12 hours of working, I finally got the AI and win/loss state in. It’s gonna take a few tweaks to make it fun and balance it. It also needs quite a bit of polish pretty much everywhere.

progress 6

So here’s looking forward to crunch mode tomorrow, everyone good luck! :)
