Ludum Dare 52 January 6–9, 2023

Pacman hardware game short of a few votes....

Play (probably) the first complete game to be written for Pacman's Z80-based arcade hardware in 37 years....includes emulator in the Windows download so no need to mess around with setting up MAME. Would really appreciate a few more ratings to get me over the line!

Also, a little on my Ludum Dare history. LD39 was my first, at that point I was making mobile games part-time while working in insurance. That game was my first in Unity/C# coming from CoronaSDK/Lua. 14 jams later I am a Senior .NET developer and write games for various 8-bit systems in my spare time. Never too late to start!

How to run the game

(Game in question: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/52/harvester-3) I know there's only four hours left of the rating period, but I'd still like to get at least a few more ratings.

First, if it didn't come with your system, you'll need to install Python. This can be done by going to the official Python website, downloading the installer, and running it. Make sure to check the Add python to PATH option, as this is needed to use Python in the command line.

Next, you'll need to install pip. It usually comes with the Python installation, but if not, then you can install it by running the command python3 -m ensurepip --upgrade. If that doesn't work, try using py in place of python3.

Next, you'll need to install pygame. In a command line, simply run the command python3 -m pip install -U pygame --user. This'll tell pip to install pygame for you, into your profile (rather than globally.)

With pygame installed, you should be able to run the game by double clicking the .pyw file. If this doesn't work, first try renaming it to a .py file. This'll cause a command line window to appear when running it, but the console can safely be minimized.

Lovecraftian Farming - Needs 14 Votes! YIKES

I only have 6, and I'm currently trying to rate as many games as I can in the next few hours!

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/52/lovecraftian-famring

You play as a humble farmer just doing their daily chores of farming the tentacles and setting up traps to draw in other horrors.

Definitely slacked a bit this time around on the voting haha, will probably do a postmortem talking about this and other things.

Ludum Dare 52 is coming to a close!

Thanks to everyone who played, rated, and gave me great feedback!

This was my first Ludum Dare and I hope to participate again in the future! My game was called "Down to Earth", a game where you throw fruits and veggies at farm invading aliens. I've decided to continue working on the game, perhaps even release a full version on steam someday. DownToEarthemScreenshot/emGame2.png

A few hours left and a few votes short!

I'm playing danger zone games as well now to try to help out others in the same situation. Lets all make it!

Edit: We made it to 20 - thank you to everyone who played! To anyone still looking to play games, check out the danger zone games

A lot of very interesting games!

I've been playing through people's entries and it's interesting to see what everyone's made! It amazing me to see the kind of things people can put together in such a short amount of time. Good job to everyone who participated!

Crazy Harvest

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/52/cravest Even though we upload in the last few hours, we hope you enjoy our games! Any feedback is very welcome:) LD52_2.jpg

Thanks to Everyone!

I just passed 100 ratings. It was my first LD so this achievement is so important and huge for me. Thank you all to everyone who played, rated, and gave feedbacks, I really appreciate it. See you on next LDs! I'm already looking at danger zone games on the last hour rush but if your game is almost there, make sure to leave a comment so I can give you a hand.

A few ratings short

Hello everyone. My game is about 6 ratings short from 20. It would really mean a lot if you guys could take a look at it. I'm still going through and rating people's games myself as of writing this post. So if you leave a rating please reply with your game so I can return the favor.

The game: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/52/night-time-harvest

Update: It hit 20! Thank you to everyone who went and rated the game! I made sure to go back and rate the games of everyone who commented on this post and the game page :)

Good luck everyone!

Huge thanks to everyone that played and reviewed my game Combine Harv-racer. The response has been incredible and was entirely unexpected, this community is awesome!

In the spirit of the final hour, I'd like to return the favour. So, I'll be scouring the "Danger" feed, but in addition to that...

Any games that need to hit 20 ratings?

Hit me up with a link in the comments and I'll play your game to help get you over the line!

And for anyone that's keen to try my jam submission (and sneak in a last-minute rating), you can try it out here:

Hello everybody!

The Harveyster team wants to congratulate everyone who submitted their games and to everyone who played ours too!

I love jams so much I literally managed to somehow fit this Ludum Dare into 24 hours whilst also packing and leaving for an international flight the next day?! No matter what, there's always time for a jam!

This was my favorite theme so I really enjoyed playing everyone's entries! Thank you for all the amazing support!!!

Thank you and goodbye!

Half an hour to go and this is the end of Ludum Dare 52. My team and me just want to say Thank you all! Thank you for participating, rating our game, posting something about yours, making this community so live. This Jam was a perfect presentation that in our life theme won't always be beautiful and easy. But we all did it! In teams and solo, using Unity and Godot, small and big projects.

See you on LD53!

BIG BIG BIG THANK YOU ALL! WE LOVE YOU!

ratings boutta be over!

What a wild jam this was with a wild theme - as usual I didn't get around to rating the many many many games I opened in other tabs :') next time I'll find a smarter way to go about things for sure.

Either way, me and the grammies are glad you got to hang out with us this January - good luck with the results! (Is top 15 really tomorrow? :grimacing: I always think results drop on the same day ratings end, lol!)

4 More Ratings

Sorry for being so late, It was my first game jam and it turns out getting rewievs is harder than I expected. I did play other games, but I don't think they were enough, since my teammates were very busy and had no time. I would only need four more reviews to pass the barrier, so if you would help me I would be very grateful.

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/52/scythefall

Even if I don't get them, I have to say it was a great journey and I thank you all for the experience. I think that only after you make a game of your own you can really understand the effort others put in their own works :)

Please help me get 20 Ratings. Game takes 5 min to play

Somehow with work and all I did not really find time to rate much at all. In previous jams I have sometimes rated more than 50 games myself. Do me a favor this one time and I promise next jam I will try to make up for the undeserved extra ratings this time!

Game is match-3 style
