New to Ludum Dare

Hello everyone! I'm currently a comp sci student in college and I recently found Ludum Dare. I'm trying to develop my pixel art skills so I'll (hopefully) be making some graphics for the upcoming prompts. So nice to meet you all!

Looking for Twine Specialist and/or Art Help

Hey all! I'm Leo, a writer, and I'm working with @natalia-dushkina , an artist. We're looking to make a straightforward, fun, choose your own adventure style game with some eye-catching art.

This is our first game jam as a team, but not the first game jam for either of us.

We'll be looking to implement it on Twine, and as we'll be focused on our respective disciplines, it'd be amazing to have someone onboard who knows Twine and can implement our work. We'd all be collaborating on plot, style, etc. of course. It would also be great to have someone's help pulling concept art or references too.

Sound interesting?! Email me at leo dot margul @ gmail.com (easiest way to reach me) or @ me here. Looking forward to working together!!!

Am I Being Too Harsh?

Honestly, I'm not a fan of the first round of themes. Too many themes are more restricting than I'd like, seeing as my original idea for a theme always gets scrapped in favor of an overscoped idea, I positively vote for themes where I can think of several concepts almost immediately.

If you disagree with one of my -1 votes, feel free to ask why I seriously voted it that. A good argument in favor of a theme might just change my mind!

wow the themes are so GOOD

My doctor recommended this positivity thing, not sure if it's helping

Searching for colleagues

Hello

I participate to the jam and I would like to do create a game with other people.
I think it is an interesting project to cooperate !
I will do the programming, if an artist or audio person would like to create a game with me, add a comment to this post or send me a message on Discord Leco#7992.
I speak french and a bit english.
Here is what I have done with 2 friends during ludum dare 48 :

Have a nice day

It's time!

unity install.png

Time to prepare and refresh my Unity skills after half a year. I'm so excited.

Maybe...

...or maybe not...

I don't know if I find enough time to participate in the upcoming LD. It would be the first LD I miss since we started.

Jam Team-Up Site?

Well, it's been a while since ol' crowdforge.io went by-by, so I thought I'd ask if anyone has seen a similar site pop up. I've been in multiple jams that have "organized" teams via discord and it's a bit of a mess most of the time.

I'm seriously thinking about creating my own site for this. But of course why build when you can "buy".

If anyone knows of any site that's geared towards finding team mates for jams, please let us know!

Eu estou dentro!

Vou participar, - Usarei Upbge - Gimp - E tentarei usar o LMMS

Round 2.... Fight!

Screenshot 2021-09-25 125552.png

It just wouldn't be a Ludum Dare Theme Voting without a "control the world/environment" theme and "Death is not the end"! I'm liking this second round of themes much better, I'm glad to see "Decay" made it since "Unstable" and "Decay" were two of my favorites during the Slaughter. "You are the power source" seems a bit too much like "Your Life Is Currency" from LD44, and "Corruption" seems like such a neat theme I only gave it a 0 because it doesn't seem as appealing to me as the three themes that received +1's.

(Also, please don't make "Keep your distance" be this Ludum Dare's theme.... an entire Ludum Dare of COVID Pandemic games would be depressing.)

Round 2 isn't much better than round 1

Some themes seem to make it always into the voting round. "Decay", "Death is not the end", "Control the environment" - all familiar from previous LDs. All in all, only a few themes speak to me in round 2. But at least for some of them I have an idea.

Theme Voting Round 2.PNG

Will it blend?

Ok, so I'm really picky about the themes. But don't mind me, tho.

Since I've been fooling around with this wacky AI-thingamajig called Neural Blender the the whole weekend already, I decided to share the fun.

I fed all the themes from Round 2 as an input for the AI to do its magic, and these are the results.

If you're feeling uninspired, tools such as this might just help fuel up your imagination.

Go and try it yourself, and feel free to share your results!

A long journey since LD46: How much money did my first game make?

Hi guys!

I've made a short analysis of my first game, which was originally made during Ludum Dare 46.

I think it could be helpful to a lot of you what I did well.... and what huge mistakes I did.

Well, for example it's questionable at least whether translating it into 23 languages was worth it or not.

Cheers!

Here's interesting picture: it sure changed a lot since LD.

Joining with my game engine Squarity

I'm in for the third time, with my own game engine, as usual : http://squarity.fr

If you are curious, here is a video of my latest game made with it. It's a sort of minimalistic RTS where each of the 2 players use only 2 buttons.

I play with my son and explain how the game works, while he sends missiles on my bases. (French speaking, sorry).

Obligatory I'm In post

Almost forgot when LD was, so I didn't get to submit any theme ideas, but I made it in time for round 1 of voting yay! :)

Boost your game with a free tool

If you would like to quickly add accessibility or to stop coding the same basic features over and over again in Unity I have something for you.

Main benefits:

  • Save time
  • Add accessibility

How it does in practice

I already used my tool in a game jam. Keep in mind that I used a very old version of it, but I still managed to create impressive results. I have never worked as fast as that Ludum Dare.

Screenshot 2021-05-17 142218.png

The game of my team was also praised for it's settings, remappable inputs (although they were broken at the time) and so much additional fun screwing with the game even after it's completion.

Faster debugging

qASIC comes with an in Game Console and what I call: an Info Displayer. With these both you can easily test out your game and debug it even outside of the editor. You can even use qDebug.ShowValue to display something on screen quickly (something I've added just for this game jam, as I kept doing that in all of my projects).

walking-console.png

Trust me when I say: most of the bugs in that game were caused by not using the console.

Better settings

Settings is something we don't often see in jam entries as they just take too much time. I've managed to solve it with qASIC. By attaching one script you can convert your sliders and dropdowns into usable settings. You just need to specify the name of the setting you want to change and you're done.

Adding settings is easy too. You just add an attribute to a function and that's it

Download

You can download it now for free on the Unity Asset Store (hopefully tomorrow the new 0.1.3 version should be processed by unity)

I would love if you would also leave a review :)
