ANN: GameMaker Studio 2 sponsors Ludum Dare 49

Press Release(1200 x 630)-5.png

Hey everyone! I'm excited to announce that GameMaker Studio 2 is a sponsor for Ludum Dare 49!

GameMaker has been a popular game making tool within the community for over a decade, and we're excited to be working together.

If you're interested, we encourage you to give GameMaker Studio 2 a try (download it here). It's free and fully accessible for anyone to start learning. ~~GameMaker will be providing licenses so everyone can export their games made during Ludum Dare 49.~~ UPDATE: GameMaker Studio 2 licenses now available, see the deals page: https://ldjam.com/../ludum-deals-49

There are still a few weeks between now and Ludum Dare 49 if you'd like to learn it. To help you get started, we've collected some tips and resources below.

GameMaker Studio 2 resources

I'm thrilled to introduce Shaun Spalding, also known as @ShaunJS. He's a regular participant that has created more than a dozen games for Ludum Dare and other jams. He's a big fan of GameMaker for jamming, and we thought he'd be a great person to ask for advice on using GameMaker in Ludum Dare.

Shaun's YouTube channel is home to many GameMaker Studio tutorials. I asked for some "quick start" recommendations, videos tutorials and general advice, and here's what he suggested:

  • "My daft, breathless 12 minute guide to making your first game": link
  • 30 minute beginners guide to GameMaker Studio: link
  • Pixelated Pope's GameMaker Do's and Don'ts (15 Commandments of GameMaker): link
  • Micro-tutorial — Make a platformer in GameMaker (any version): link
  • The GameMaker subreddit's Wiki: link

If you're a more experienced user, Shaun recommended these libraries and add-ons:

EDIT: Update! YellowAfterLife has put GMLive on sale! 20% off for Ludum Dare 49!

Recommended official tutorials

If you prefer step-by-step written tutorials, these come highly recommended:

  • Fire Jump full game tutorial (beginner): link
  • Little Town full game tutorial (beginner-intermediate): link
  • Make your own Arcade Classic (beginner): link

That just scratches the surface. You can find a more comprehensive library on the GameMaker tutorial website, as well as more information in the GameMaker Studio 2 manual.

I'm in, as all jammers should be.

Slaughter done for another jam. Hopefully people don't get as upset by my slaughtering as they did last time.

Looking for a team

Hi guys! I am a pixel artist. Look for a team to build something cool and fun. Feel free to message me :)

I'M COMING AND USING A NEW ENGINE!

Like last time, I'll be using a fairly new game engine to me! Gamemaker Studio 2! I'll be also doing the compo along my exams, not really sure how I'll pull this one off. Anyway! SO EXCITED! My tools:

1) GMS2 as the game engine 3) Beepbox as the music maker 4) BFXR as the sound effects 5) Pixelorama for the art

That's all! I'm nervous about this! But I hope I pull this off because this will make such a banger YouTube video lol

Are you kidding me?!?!?!

ALL RIGHT WHO PUT THIS IN FOR A THEME?!?!?!? 'Sixty years old grandma' WHY????!!!

Done!

Eliminating redundancy is key

Can we please stop putting “is key” onto themes? We know it’s key. It’s the theme. If it wasn’t key, it wouldn’t be the theme.

Adding “is key” is just as redundant as adding “is the theme”.

Cool feature, LD

I just found out that if you click on the theme name, it googles it for you. Cool feature that I will probably be using when I see non-English or unfamiliar words as themes.

Thanks, LD!

I am forced to drop out

Due to a change in the visitation schedule to my Dad, I can't join in the jam. I will have to wait until April to join a Ludum Dare. But hey, at least I will have the time to learn how to draw characters now.

Quick question though: if I don't post a game, can I still rate games?

LDJAM 29 no longer accessible? Old account gone?

Hey everyone. I tried doing a search to see if anything happened to the previous LDjam pages, I can't seem to login to my old account (though I dont remember the specifics of it) and I also can't find any listings for "Beneath the Surface" which was LD 29, and my game scored pretty high in that one. I was hoping to join LD49 under the same account but can't seem to.

Thanks in advance to any help anyone can provide!

Halfway done!

I don't usually participate in the slaughter round, but I've had some time to do this recently. It's been... an experience. I'll finish, but I think I'll wait until theme voting next time.

Team Round Up

Good afternoon all right now I am looking for some artists to finish up my team. Right now we have 2 programmers and 3 sounds people. Message me at KingOfNova#9334

Abyss

Hello everyone! 👋

Some of you might remember our LD48 game Rabbit Rappel. 4021e.png

Since the end of LD48, we have been working hard on expanding the game into a complete experience!

If you are at all interested in following the game's development, we have made a community discord where we will be posting our progress and taking suggestions! We are looking forward to meeting new members!

In the meantime, please enjoy this track! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYH33Oy5y3E

Looking for 2D Pixel Artist

If i can't find anyone, i will do this jam solo. No pressure! Check out my previous games to get a feel for what i've been up to. My aim this jam is to explore another 2d genre that is new to me. Perhaps space shooter, perhaps infinite runner, perhaps something else! Hit me up on discord dm's BluePinStudio#0001
