Completely Knackered but mission successful!

3.30am end of day 2 log: Manage to complete what I wanted to achieve (mostly anyways). Again, no audio this time around, but managed to open Photoshop and draw a couple of shitty textures.

Sweet bed, here I come how I missed you!

Well I made *something*

It's nowhere near as polished as it wants to be, but it's a barely functioning Tower Defence dang it!

The vision cone stuff is cool I suppose, as is the radial...everything. I really like the ideas and might build upon them someday... Hoping I don't feel ill and miserable halfway through the next one .

First Ludum Dare Over.

coverReal.png

After 48 long hours of tears, blood, sweat and falling asleep at the keyboard, I have finally realeased my game Just Another Pocket Universe. (Find it here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/$16919)

Last night I was set and sure it was going to be complete with time to spare. Unfortunately as previously mentioned falling asleep at the keyboard did not help at all. Well it is done, not the game I had in my head and not as done as I had hoped but definietly something to continue to work on.

Maybe it is just me but I am now realising all the things I did not complete this weekend including 2 essays and revision for a test in the morning. Well guess I have a long night ahead of me. Anyway thanks for a great first Ludum Dare experience, even those of you who just put up blog posts, the motivation helps. Can't wait to see all the other games people have made. Cheers!

Actually completed one!

Finished my game generation ship, a turn based survival game set in a generation ship. It had a few issues, and it's not that fun, but something to build on for future Ludum DAres and I'm mostly just glad to get something done for the first time

And Done!

Going No Air is definitely the most well-rounded game I've made for a Ludum Dare.

Short post to finish right now - dying for some food.

I Finished!

I did it. The game is a lot more incomplete than i thought it would be. Well i leard somtiong i guess.

Orbitunes is DONE (...enough)!

It's not the prettiest thing, or the most interesting thing. Hell, it's not even the most functional thing! But it's done, and I'm fairly proud of it.

Maybe it was a little ambitious to make a music creation game with almost no musical expertise (and it definitely shows), but I'd say I've learned quite a bit! :)

Now if y'all will excuse me, I need to get some food in my stomach.

Finally Finished

I'm not going to lie, this has been the hardest Ludum Dare for me so far. I've never struggled with a theme so much before and that left me really unmotivated to finish the game for the first time. All in all, I think that the final product (hasn't been published yet due to the weird submission form, but it will be called "Replenish") is fairly decent but could have used a little more polish (and a little more refinement of the idea). Hopefully next time I'll enjoy it more

What I've Learned

So, thinking about this Compo, I feel like I've gained a lot of insight into my own abilities. So I figured, why not share with everyone?

This was my first Ludum Dare. I feel like it went pretty well, but there are a couple things I'd have definitely done differently.

First, I'd like to strangle my ISP. I streamed the whole Compo and had more disconnects than I care to count.

Second, I learned that it's important not to get worked up into a hype on night one. I had trouble sleeping and I feel like it affected my performance on Saturday.

Third: Going out to eat with family often takes way more time than you expect. 6:30-7:00AM back at PC ready to work? Try 8:00AM. Oops. There went an hour.

Fourth: I need to find a group of people I can chat with while I'm working on this stuff. I found yesterday after my Discord guest on the stream left that I was having trouble focusing because I was alone with no interaction. I appreciate friends not wanting to bother me, but I feel like I might have worked better with someone (or people) to bounce ideas off of.

Fifth: I'm exhausted. I don't feel as wiped out as I did yesterday but that might just be the "I did it!" adrenaline doing its thing.

I'm really looking forward to August. Compo or Jam (depends on if I can get some friends involved) it's gonna' be a blast. This is a weekend I want to remember for the rest of my life.

Thank you, @pov, for creating something truly amazing that I have the privilege of taking part in.

Day 2 Progress

Although days 2 and 3 are currently blending seamlessly together, I thought I'd post some progress anyway! Here's the "protagonist" critter from our game bouncing merrily along.

We in!

We innnn!

Finished My Game

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/$19341

It's not much but I'm proud of how it turned out considering it was my first game.

Day 2 Progress: Slow but Steady :)

I've learned so so so much during these last two days. Unity really does seem to be one heck of a powerful tool.

It's looking pretty nice and beginning to take shape. Tomorrow I desperately need to start packaging it into a cohesive game loop rather than just a planet you can blow up.

The idea, by the way, is that you're an Indie miner searching for an artefact. Unfortunately for really important reasons regarding your oxygen tank is pierced and has only x second left of oxygen! So you need to go around blowing up the planet in search for the artefact as well as air bubbles to replenish your tank, avoiding spiky rocks and things that could pierce more holes bleeding more oxygen.

Here's a gif maybe! https://media.giphy.com/media/3o7btNNduCI92pqpfW/giphy.gif

Since I can't seem to even upload something with a 8MB< size D:

GLHF and see you tomorrow!

I'm done on time :D

It's been a close call, as always. Tons of ideas had to be left by the wayside and the code is pretty much a mess, but it looks like the game is complete.

Quite happy with the result, although I'm sure there are some bugs to be ironed out. But that is for another day.

Meetup - My first Ludum Dare!

Finally done with my first Ludum Dare project  Such a fun ride!

A fun game about not being in the mood to meet people and chat :grinning:

  • Unity 5.6 (C#)
  • Visual Studio
  • Photoshop
  • Bosca Ceoil

I made everything... except the game

This is a first for me. Generally I have the core gameplay working by the deadline at least, and just slap some menus, sounds and stuff on top.

This time around though, I wrote the story, drew the cutscenes, did the animations, but there is literally nothing to play. What a feat

Feel Better About This One

I definitely think this year was my best ludum dare. I actually managed to get music done in time for the first time in the compo! I’m happy with the game itself as well, worked with procedurally generating maps for the first time.  Can’t wait for all of the submissions to roll in!
