Does anyone want to put their own story in this?

For LD41 I made a game that lets you play through a choose your own adventure narrative using a match 3 interface and it turns out it was pretty fun writing the story for it.

The really interesting thing is the story content is already pretty much separate from the game engine. Would anyone be interested in writing their own story and delivering it to people in this way?

Anyone interested is very welcome to just take the code and run with it but I'm also happy to potentially work with people on this.

I would also just love to hear if anyone gives this a try.

The main restrictions at the moment are : - Panel size : you only have so much space for each scene of your game's text to appear in - Number of choices: limited to at most 4 options (but it supports 0 - 4) - No text formatting (at the moment) - It currently doesn't render options that have been chosen before to prevent the narrative making nonsensical loops but allow for a bit of content re-use.

Features commenters have already suggested or that I was thinking of adding: - Ambient sounds for a given scene - Playing sounds when a given option is chosen - Ability to specify assets in the settings file (needed for supporting your own sounds and supporting your preferred look + feel) - Settings screen to let the player choose some options like the name / title / gender of their protagonist - Intro screen to show off a title card for the story - Setting flags that can be checked in other scenes for a more dynamic story - Translations. They'd be awful but I kind of want to see just how bad feeding the story text through google translate would be

System Override UPDATE

Hey everyone!

Just to inform you that my game for LD41, System Override, has been updated. You can check all the details at https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/games/system-override.

Please, for evaluation purposes consider only the original version. The updated version has been built only for Windows and is available at https://thiagofredes.itch.io/system-override, with the _x86_post_ld suffix, to differentiate it from the original.

I intend to update it every now and then because I'm finally starting to like my game! ^^"

I have new ideas coming up and hope to implement them soon.

Hope you all have some nice play'n'rate weeks! o/

Who killed Frankenstein?

2.png

This time, we went with a choice based detective game. You step into the role of Columbo, an aging detective who needs to go around a movie monster sanctuary, gathering clues, making connections, finding a motive and accusing the killer.

Check it out here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/murder-in-the-refuge-of-retired-monsters

Coming up with the crime and its details was probably the most difficult aspect of this game, especially since we had multiple characters saying different bits of information and it was a lot more difficult to figure out when we should reveal certain clues. Distributing who says what was also challenging, as we had to make room for some worldbuilding too. Finally, we made sure the characters all have distinct personalities, so it's easier to tell them apart.

As for the refuge, we had a standard mansion-like building in mind, with multiple rooms. Dressing up these rooms was actually quite fun. Anyway, we hope you can find the killer!

Changelog 1.01 : The game's fixed !

Sorry, I kind of forgot to make a post to announce it, but the game's working again !

Now go kick some human ass !

I've played 50 games since yesterday morning

And I've seen some truly inspiring, often bonkers games from you crazy kids. I want to live inside Ludum Dare forever. I'm making a start on the next 50 games shortly, so go ahead and drop yours in the comments. In the mean time, feel free to check out and rate my own game, Date Night - The Survival Horror Dating Sim. Had some good feedback so far and I could always use more. And yes, there is cannibalism in it. So much cannibalism.

Post LD and Apology for a stupid mistake

And so i finally rested, it was my first LD, with a friend we made this Shoot'em Up Tower Defense game, well incomplete but playable: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/attack-on-mothership

I made a poor time management, and in the last day some personal issues happened, but i'm not here to make any excuses, the lack of sound and poor balance was my mistake from the very start of this as i picked the wrong Aspect Ratio. That mistake almost made us cant send the game.

But that mistake is something needed for me to learn from it. People aren't made to be perfect, mistakes need to happen.

After saying that i need to make an apology for a mistake. This one i dunno how i made it, maybe the rush or so, but again, not making any excuses, just apology. I turned one tower damage to zero, using it its just visual and waste of money. For that i'm really sorry.

-- As my first LD i felt anxious and nervous, i wanted to make something playable and publish it here. i cried a little thinking that all the work we had done till the final deadline would be "thrown to trash" by that mistake i had done, but in the end i found a way to counter and send it in time. There i cried more from the relief.

Sorry for the long text, and for any mistakes in the text, english is not my country language.
