DEADline - added CO-OP and AZERTY support (postjam version)

As pointed out by @peachtreeoath, DEADline features a CO-OP mode pretty much by accident, which not to say it's a bad way to play the game.

To help this along, I cooked up a CO-OP mode, which can be toggled in the menu. It simply changes the controls, so that words in theat mode use all the regular letters, so P1 can just type and P2 can platform using the arrow keys (jump is up or num 0) or using a gamepad. I've tested it out with my fianceé and it's a pretty neat way play as well.

I've also added AZERTY support for our dear French jammers. Sorry, that it took so long.

If you haven't tried the game yet, it's mashup of a typing game and a platformer in wich you create platforms by typing them out.

You can cooperate or become a lone wolf of DEADline here .
Do take a look at the changelog on the gamepage though and rate the appropriate version.

First "Darkling" gameplay footage!

Not sure why it took me so long to record and upload this! This is just me doing a casual run going to about Wave 6 or so. My personal best is about 12, I'll have to try to capture one of those runs soon.

Thanks so much to everyone who's played and rated "Darkling" thus far! Leave me your games in the comments and I'll play them tonight (if I haven't already) when I get off work. Thanks!

Slow going, but still going

fools fortune title gif.gif

Things are slow with the recent hard drive failure, thankfully nothing lost so I've salvaged an old laptop and managed to continue work.

At this point the final version is almost complete all I have left to do is implement audio (waiting on audio tech to get back from vacation), unlocking suits of cards through play, finishing the art, implementing an options menu and finishing the 100 odd scenarios that are left to write!

I expect to finish sometime in the next 2 weeks and then release on https://gearsteak.itch.io/ and android devices!

With all that said I am trying to implement some of the communities feedback, right now namely text readability. I've added the ability to skip text scroll through right clicking and will be adding the ability to turn off the candles lighting. I've altered the colour of the candles as well but am looking for feedback on if they still look good, or if the colour alteration has fixed any of the readability issues that a few people had mentioned;

Compared to

As you can tell the candles are a far more distinctive beeswax sort of colour.

I look forward to hearing the communities feedback!

Post LD-Build

Thank you all for playing War Crimes!

The next iteration is here!

s1.png Colour customisation

I have compiled all the feedback and features that didn't fit the original time frame and compiled a new, very improved build, so please check it out!

PLEASE NOTE

LD44 is not over, and as such I must implore you not to rate my game based on this build. If you wish to play and compare the original and rate based on that, then that is fine. The new build is simply for you enjoyment, not to receive ratings! Check out the new build here and the LD page here!

One Coin, two faces, and a crowd of evil rich dudes

ffd_preview.png

Hey!

Face for Death is a 2D runner platformer videogame developed for the April 2019 Lumdum Jam, in where you play a double faced coin and you have to scape from a city plenty of evil rich dudes.

We keep working on a modular level generation protoype and some of the mood we want to give it, so maybe last version is not so playable like first. Anyway, we can see some of core mechanics working OK now and how would be scaled the game.

Havent played yet? Come and enjoy, but dont forget rate it!

How much polish in your game went unnoticed?

The background clouds in Jumpcoins are alive. Not only do they bumble around on their own, but they react directly to the player's actions. When you jump, nearby clouds move out of the way. And when you die, the shockwave pushes all the clouds outward with it, then they pull back in slightly to fill the vacuum.

I believe zero players consciously noticed this extra polish!

During development, I tuned the brightness of the clouds way down, because I figured players would find it distracting. After all, it's a platformer, not a cloud wrangling sim. But I feel like I must have gone too far, so it went unnoticed.

I ended up with about 100 lines of cloud reaction code, which took probably an hour to write and fine-tune. But in a compo game you have no time whatsoever to waste on unnecessary fluff! So how do you find the right balance between loud and distracting, delightful but subtle, and unseen/wasted effort?
