Filter LD Entries - Part 2

You know this problem where you want to rate some games, but the ones LD suggests for you are mostly the wrong genre and/or for the wrong platform?

I have updated the LudumData filtering tool: http://ludumdata.openfu.com/event/LD44

You can now both filter by platform and also search for keywords. The order of entries is randomized every few minutes to give everyone a fair shake (synchronizing with the Coolness score on the LDJAM site takes too long and is too cumbersome right now).

Sadly, there is no data available to enable users to search for a specific genre, but at least you can use keyword search to select for certain things.

Lastly, a shameless plug: if you're looking for a dungeon puzzler (yes, I made that category up), check out my game, Dungeon Buddies: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/44/dungeon-buddies

Life path

Just a reminder that my game exists :) You gotta pimp your game hard to get people to play your game. I am not sure how the LD algorithm works or if very few people are still playing and rating. I've been blown away by your reactions to my game tho :) I can't complain about anything at all this LD.

One Coin, two faces, and a crowd of evil rich dudes

ffd_preview.png

Hey!

Face for Death is a 2D runner platformer videogame developed for the April 2019 Lumdum Jam, in where you play a double faced coin and you have to scape from a city plenty of evil rich dudes.

We keep working on a modular level generation protoype and some of the mood we want to give it, so maybe last version is not so playable like first. Anyway, we can see some of core mechanics working OK now and how would be scaled the game.

Havent played yet? Come and enjoy, but dont forget rate it!

An infernal hatch for you

Would you like an infernal hatch to drag everything you want to hell? Here you are!

You can use this sprite if you like.

### In Zoltan's city cats can be fall into one of these at any time.

But how do you design a hatch like this?

animatedhatch.gif

First thing I did was defining the hatch shape and making the flashing effect.

If you are familiar with old style games, you can see a lot of this effect in explosions. Basically an explosion always starts with a flash of light, and the simplest flash of light is obtained by alternating black and white. In this case I added red because I wanted a more colored and fire-like effect.

Then I decided to add some infernal red smoke. I used a cloud shaped brush in Photoshop and I started with red. I made a burst in the center of my hatch incrementing the red with any frame. Next I added orange and finally some yellow. Note that the brush became smaller with every colour.

Then I added some infernal light coming out of the hatch. I did this on the stitched spritesheet. I used a soft brush to trace rays and the adjusted the opacity to make the light stronger as the hatch opens.

Also I made sure to cut my light so that it stayed inside the frame of the hatch.

But I wasn't happy with it, so I added some random sparks. The position of these doesn't really care since they move random.

I created the hatch separately from the cat falling down, because in Zoltan, we can have cats of any colour. So the final animation is made of two sprites one over the other. I had to make sure to cut the cat so that it looked like it was inside the hatch in the very last frame.

Question -> Can i update the source files of my compo entry ? (Not the game)

So some fiends of mine where interested inn the source files for my LD44 submission but some found it confusing/hard to read. This made me think about other people who might be interested, they might also be struggling with my code. i want to clean it up for read ability sake. So the question is can i update the source(not the delivered GAME), or would i break some rules by doing so? I cant find a rule against this so just to be safe i want to ask :frog:
