Ludum Dare 46 April 17–20, 2020

i'm in #3

for the third time i'm in, enjoyed last two LDs i did, it was lots of fun and also i always learn something.

i'm going solo. i will be using Unreal Engine 4 it is my all mighty overlord. probably mostly BPs with some C++ if i will need to do some real math or recursion. for 3D "art" Blender 2.8, for 2D mouse drawings Affinity photo (aka discount Photoshop :D ). for sound mic on my phone, and Audacity. for music this time i thinking something like dwarf fortress theme, guitar jam of sorts (i'm not musician), or i gonna use some generator if i will be pressed on time.

Looking for a team

Hi, that's my third Ludum dare, but my teams are not going to join LD this time :(

I'm a Programmer and I use the Unity Engine for my games...

well... that's all folks

Obligatory joke about Hello World for my first post

Hello world!

Excited to join Ludum Dare for the first time, have seen many great things from the competition in the past and I just want to continue improving and jamming and etc. Not sure what I'm really doing with setting up but hey, I'll figure it out.

I'll be doing a team with friends and I hope we'll be working in GMS2 - I have used Unity in a previous jam to push myself to learn the engine and I really like it but, honestly, I'm not good at the engine. And with at least 233 hours in GMS2 I still don't feel quite confident in my abilities but that imposter syndrome has to always be there somewhere.

Let's do this. Have fun and take care, especially during these current times.

It ain't much, but it's honest work

It's okay if I post these things, right? I mean, I don't want to do anything that could bother anyone.

Okay, next step will be to make it actually play the music, and to use particles.

Readying the unreadiness

Learn basic C# : check.

Learn basic Unity : check.

Learn basic whatever that software to make music is called : I can make "beep" and "bop", good enough.

Learn basic whatever that software to make sound effect is called : I can make "beep" and "bop", but less music-y and more sound effect-y, good enough.

Learn basic Blender : check.

Learn basic animation : check... more or less ?

Learn how to put basic animation in Unity : wait, what does that button do ? Where did my scene go ? Why can't I change this window ? Why does it say my shoulder is an upper arm ? Why is this moving and the rest isn't ? Why is my character doing a death pose even though I haven't created a death pose yet ? confused beginner noise

4 days on the clock, let's wish us all good luck... don't know for you but guess I'm gonna need it !

Hello there!

Hi people! I hope this time I'll be able to take part in LD and that someone will play my game, or at least that I'll finish one. Let's have some fun!

Im In (Also Some Other Things)

Hello, this is my first ludem dare, and I am looking forward to it. The once concern I have is the theme. Most of the themes in voting sucked. In the theme elimination round thing I voting probably 20 good out of 600. Is this number of garbage themes usual during ludem dare?

Quest for an educational game: Part 2

Last Ludum Dare I set off on the bold goal to make an educational game that was theoretically motivated on some level.

I ended up making a game that I've been thinking about for a while - a puzzle game that visually represents functional programming languages.

Unfortunately, the controls were not intuitive AT ALL and explaining the game required a very rushed 8 page guide. Despite these shortcomings, this proved to me that making something like that was at least a little bit possible.

This time around, I'm going to try and continue the same gimmick of making something worthy of a fancy academic educational conference but focus a lot more on the accessibility of it. I'm 100% trying to do too much with far too little time, but I felt both accomplished and humbled by my last attempt and I want to hunt that feeling down again.

We're Back

Des and I are back for more Ludum Dare. I'm kind of using this to test out the capabilities of my engine and some new tools I've written, so we'll see how this goes! Good luck to everyone!

Team JOURNEY JOURNEY VIDEO GAME CLUB is in!

Hey everyone! We're Team JOURNEY JOURNEY VIDEO GAME CLUB and we're entering LUDUM DARE 46! We're doing a FULLY REMOTE GAME JAM this time (who isn't), coming at you from California x 4, wherever Miyo is located, and a location that is as far away as it is popular on skribbl.io.

We made a warmup game last weekend to put everyone through the paces! Here's where it is now http://138.197.213.214:3000/ - keep in mind we made that entire thing in about FOUR HOURS!

I asked everyone on the team for a quote about how they were feeling about this LD! Let's see what they had to say.

  • b-rad - "I am being Quoted under duress"
  • miyolophone - "betrayal.mp3"
  • LunacyEcho - "Gosh quarantine has made my life so busy but I just HAD to give this a try because the upshot seemed so worthwhile! Anyway, when is that LD-sponsored Nintendo internship that johnfn promised me gonna happen?"
  • fawnblue - "play journey"
  • johnfn - "no"
  • miyolophone - “oh no not another paper doc”
  • garlagan -"i just accidentally PUSHED AGAIN"
  • LunacyEcho - “my old quote was excessively long but after seeing the others I've switched to this shorter one”

And now for the THINGS WE WILL BE USING LIST

  • Tiled
  • Visual Studio Code
  • PIXI.js
  • Google Docs
  • Dropbox Paper is better
  • The starter code in https://github.com/johnfn/ld-starter (specifically the library/ folder)
  • Logic Pro X
  • photoshop
  • clip studio paint
  • coffee!

Back at it again

In for another LD during these quarantimes. I'll be using GMS2, FLStudio, and Aseprite/Inkscape for this project. Best of luck to all, happy voting!

I need some help from a person with a windows computer

Hello good people of the internet. I need some help to compile my app for windows. All you have to do is download the code from this github repo: https://github.com/Nikos1001/Tonnoform , download the Processing 3 IDE(it's free), open the code in the IDE and export it as a windows application. Then, create a pull request so that I can get the compiled app. Thank you very much!

Deja vu

OH HELL NAH ITS IN ROUND 3?????? MUST DOWNVOTE......... NOW

First Ludum Dare!

Hey guys, literally just started gamedev again a couple weeks ago. Haven't done any real gamedev work since I was a kid. Let's see how I go haha.

My game will almost certainly be crap, but it's all about the learning experience hey! Happy voting/dev'ing.

Mick.

I'm here before it starts this time.

First time here looking forward to making something fun and hopefully fast enough.See y'all on friday I guess.

Looking for Team who can adopt me!

I prefer using Unity with c# programming language, but I can program in Java since I'm deployed in Industry as Android Developer! I hope I can find team who wanted to adopt a first timer like me! Feel free to comment down below! I have personal experience when it comes to game dev but very limited to quiz, game, multiple choice game, right now I am exploring in 3d with physics base. Just trying my luck to be in a team I know its too late but yea I would still join even If I can't find a team! Again Good luck everyone and make the most of it! dont forget to have fun and rest well! stay safe everyone
