I’m In!

Giving it another go – hopefully this time I’ll be able to plan smaller.

Base code is on Github and consists of a pair of projects, one abandoned and one very early, using Livescript to manipulate an HTML Canvas. There’s most of a game in there, though I only expect to re-use the sprite and scene management parts.

I’ll be going with the “No Violence” theme too, whatever the main theme is. Should be interesting.

I really like your idea of using the No Violence regardless. I think i’ll do the same. UNLESS Chaos is the theme. Then i’ll just go with nothing but violence. Lol.

Done!

I had an idea about fragile flowers being transported for the pleasure of the mad gods who ruled an island, but it was turning out kind of boring, so I scrapped it. Instead you get Everything Explodes.

I hope you enjoy.

BINGO BINGO BINGO

Do you have ten minutes? Do you like strategic card games? Do you have strong feelings about BINGO, positive or negative? Are you breathing? If you answered yes to any of those questions you may find my effort for the most recent compo interesting!

Now that the shameless self-promotion is over, some thoughts…

This is the most polished and complete game I’ve ever turned out in an LD; that was partly due to the nature of the game (one-screen, turn-based), partly due to the environment (the pico-8 fantasy console is great!), and maybe a little due to more practice from past LDs and other efforts.

Besides that I’m also happy with the results as a strategic game. I think it has enough depth now to make it genuinely interesting, and with a few more complications it’ll actually be something I’d be willing to spend a lot of time playing. I’m not in any rush to do that but I’m fiddling with a few ideas.

If you enjoy the game or think it has promise, I wrote up a some notes on strategy and playing in person you might enjoy.

Have fun, and tell me what you think!

Some prep code

Still not sure I’m in for this weekend, but I posted some prep code to Github. It’s just a short set of functions that help me write visual-novel style scenes in the browser without worrying about async, as well as a scene selector that allows me to create a “deck” of scenes and randomly select one after another that meets preconditions based on game state.
