Summoner's Chess is a weird mix of chess + checkers + killing enemy pieces to summon your own.

Thanks to everyone for their awesome feedback so far! I've been busy working on a post-jam version and wanted to preview some of the ongoing work:

✨ Visual Revamp

I'm still fairly new to game dev, so making things looks nice is pretty tricky - especially in only 48 hours. Improvements were also needed to make the summoning button much more obvious.

♟️ Upgrading Pieces

When pawns in chess and men in checkers reach the end of the board, they upgrade to stronger pieces. Previously I was able to include the automatic upgrades for checkers men, but wasn't able to finish it for the pawns - this is now possible!

🎥 Camera Views

By default, I included a fixed persons-eye-view of the board, which can now be rotated. I've also added a new top-down view - it's essentially Civ V's "Strategic View".

🛠️ Custom Matches

The compo submission includes 10 progressively more difficult levels, but I kept finding myself wanting to create more and more more wackier custom layouts. So the post-jam version will include a 'Custom Match' mode for creating any layout you want. This is currently on-going work, but going well so far.

I'm super pleased with the results of my first compo submission, especially getting 79th place for fun (the category I'm always most worried about).

To celebrate, I've just released the post-jam version on itch. It features custom matches, a new smarter AI, and enhanced visuals (along with much more!).
