Woke up, time to start!

Helloo!

I just woke up and had a look at the theme… alone! – well, at least it’s not random generated (hard to do well on 2 days you know…) or kittens… phew!

So, after a bit of thinking and lots of help, I’ve come up with an idea for my game:

You’re in an expedition with someone, but right at the start, this someone dies. OMG OMG OMG… so you decide it’d be nice to drag his/her body home. So basically what I’m going to do is a simple puzzle/exploration platformer set in a cave, where you must find a safe way to drag the body and exit the cave.

If I have time (if everything goes right, the first part should be finished by this afternoon… then I’d implement the idea, and tomorrow it’s level time + bug fixing + polish), I will add some kind of day/night cycle. During the day, everything’s OK. During the night, there’s some climatic hazard which kills you slowly, so you have to take refugee at some places in the cave (there will be some constructions and natural refugees…). Taking refugee will skip the night and reveal a bit of storyline (won’t make the storyline too long, so the best players can still see it all… then it’ll be a collection of random quotes I guess).

Also my intention is to have a bit of dark ambient / creepy sfx in the cave. You will be alone… but man, it’s going to be creepy!

this is going to be interesting ^^

Main Character!

Finally finished the main character for this idea – keep it mind it scales by 2 on the game. 😛

First Preview

Here is my first preview of my game. On this preview you can move around and there’s the light system implemented.

Here’s the original idea, basically it’s about dragging your companion’s dead body back home from a very unlucky expedition.

Play it here: Rolpege LD22 (Alone) – Preview 1

You control the character with arrow keys / WASD / ZQSD / ,AOE

(light fixed)

I think you need to have at least a little light shining behind the character, at the moment the fact that turning around totally changes what you can see is a little annoying. Might work out nicely in the final thing though…

Another thing with the lighting is that you can see what you are standing on, wich makes platforming a bit harder.

Lunch 1

Chips and salmon with soy sauce. Bread and water (totally forgot to put the beers in the fridge – damn!) Yummy yummy!

This is sweeeeet. Love the concept.

Third Preview

(first preview, second preview)

Here is my third preview of my game. It’s the same as the second one, but with real background and tileset!

It’s the first time I can draw a PROPER tileset, with all the corners and the inner corners, so I’m very proud of this!

Here’s the original idea, basically it’s about dragging your companion’s dead body back home from a very unlucky expedition.

is he smiling while going down?

The tielset and background look good :).

Fourth Preview

(first preview, second preview, third preview)

Here is my fourth preview of my game. I added elevator, switches, doors, pressure switches, torches, spikes and the ability to bounce on your partner!

I’m very proud of the elevator animation and its steam. First time I animate smoke properly! It’s not any good, but it does the trick and I DID IT! – also, take a look at the bounce animation, I loved doing that haha!

Dinner #1

image

That’s bread with tomato (typical catalan dish) and a bit of cheese (it’s common to have cheese, jam, etc. on top of that – but I don’t like meat) – it also has salt and oil (and usually garlic but not this time).

There’s also beer, so I can get a bit of inspiration! :)

Is that mayonnaise? ._.

Fart Sounds

I’m in the process of recording shit so I can make sfx for my game… as my game needs a fart sound, I recorded some farts with the mouth. I thought you’d like to hear them :) (gets better at the middle, most of the farts suck :P)

Fifth Preview

(first preview, second preview, third preview, fourth preview)

Here is my fifth preview of my game. It’s basically EVERYTHING except proper level design (The level there is a test) and a timer on levels which I completely forgot haha.

I’m REALLY proud of the sfx, I made all of them by myself! (except the spikes one which is sfxr :( )

We’re in!

Oh man, it’s very early here. We woke up at 5am, ready for a very productive day!

So, we’re in. We’ve done an extensive brainstorming, we’ve got an idea we like, and we’ve brainstormed what elements we’ll use for that idea as well. All that left’s to do is… make the damn game!

We’ll be using Unity3D with C# and Visual Studio (and ReSharper!), adding in a bit of Ferr2D and TextMesh Pro and DOTween (because, I mean, can you use Unity3D without DOTween? :P)

We’re a team of two. I’m Abel Toy, and I’ll be acting mainly as the programer, and there’s Axel Compte as well, who will be doing some art, some level design and the general game design of the game as well. We’ll try to add in some music however we can, and also sound effects.

Our schedule will probably be:

– First day (today): Prototype and code in the elements and features of the game
– Second day: Levels, art, polish
– Third day: Polish and release.

Wish you all the best of luck!
