Setting all up

Hi anyone!

I’m here setting all up for second time to start a lundum dare. I did this more than a year ago and I couldn’t enter the competition for a reason I don’t remember.

So, I see you should talk somewhat before starting it, I just voted for the 3 first polls, and I’m writing my presentation post, what else is left?

Oh, what should I use? I’ll use Java, I think, blender if I need 3d models, wich looks unlikely and LWJGL over JOGL, ’cause I used it before. Maybe I’ll use some code posted from “http://code.google.com/p/quadriga/” but seems hightly unlikely, ’cause there are many wrong things inside there.

Also, I hope not to break any rule, and if I do, it would be ’cause it’s my first time and I don’t know them at heart. So if you see me breaking any, tell me and I’ll just go “ouch!” and try to do better next time, it’s not my goal to win anything on first try (finishing something would be a great success).

And last, but not least, I’ll should warn you: I’m not english, nor american nor from anywhere where english is spoken, so forgive my spelling/grammar mistakes, I hope to not have done a lot of them 😉

Actually, I couldn’t tell you were not a native English speaker, you just sound like you made a few typos or need some sleep or something. Good luck!

I actually needed some sleep, xD

‘Morning

Alone.

So… back to sleep. I’ll get an idea and start coding in avt 1 or 2 hours.

It’s going to be…

Nàufrag!!!!

I don’t remember the translation to english, so for now you’ll just know it as “Robinson crusoe game” or “Lost in blue a la Lundum Dare”.

Settet up LWJGL to do my input and now i’m going to copy old render code to have the background ready in a moment.

11 a.m. here in catalona.

No way!!!!!

I got an image, but no idea how to upload it. Well, I uploaded it, but I can not post it ;-(

Anyway, I just did a lot of thinks. You can… WALK!!!!! Yeah, impressive. You also starve but never die anyway so I should improve that. I’m already learning what I’ll need next time, so I’ll just finish and wait for LD23 😀

Not going to win but…

but I’m ready to try next time.

EXPERIENCE, LEARNING. I’m doing a lot. I’ll have my engine ready for the next one, so I’ll be able to work on gameplay. This game is going to be a simple adventure, with a spice of fun, I don’t want anyone to vote for me as “best game”, but at least I hope you smile a little bit.Le Weird Castaway

I’m programming on ubuntu, the only image editor that exist here is GIMP, and I need paint, so I downloaded GNOME Paint. If anyone wants to follow my steps, DON’T. It doesn’t do anything you want it to do.

Morning everyone!

I designed the rest of the game while watching Barça’s match. Now I have energy enought to finish this game!

The game is finished!!!!

Now I’ll run it on windows, and try to add sounds. If everything works as expected, I’ll post it and start to think the post-mortem.

Preparing for Ludum Dare

Hi everybody!!!! I’m making preparations to my 2nd Ludum Dare.

The first one is code. After finishing my first entry, for LD22, I started to write an engine, so yesterday I created a github account and uploaded that engine.

You can find it by the name of Antagonista! https://github.com/Atridas/Antagonista

I expect to familiarize myself with the use of git, as I never used it before (I was a mercurial user, for now I still believe it is “simpler”, but I just want to get used to git). I had a complex structure of branches and tags in hg, now triing to replicate it on git, wathever, as soon as I can, I will update the master branch with info avout how it all works.

I’m really, frakkin’ late

And I’m not event starting, I’m going to eat!!!!

Well, as soon as I can, I’ll start making pomodoros and counting them. Then I’ll stop to watch football (today’s is Barça-Madrid, sorry LD), and I’ll evaluate what I have and what can I do tomorrow.

At least I got some ideas and a semi-done java engine (it’s on github, I posted it a week ago, I think: https://github.com/Atridas/Antagonista)

Just to state my idea: somethink populous-like (the beginning). yeah one of the first games I ever played.

Sorry

I just can’t.

It’s been a long week, and I am so tired I just can’t work on this I need to rest.

Good luck to everyone!!!!!!

Hello LD24

Hello Everyone, this is Atridas and I’m in for the Fight.

Now I am downloading Unity, so I’ll be able to to try it in a preassure situation 😀

Later I’ll be toying with it and with Blender, so I’ll be warmed up tomorrow when I wake up and 6-7 hours will have passed since the theme announcement (Maybe the time to announce LD’s theme is not balanced for Europe, maybe it really doesn’t mather in my 1-time experience, we will see this time).

O course I’m not english, I do a lot of mistakes writing, etc, etc… Doesn’t matter, fun is a universal language and I hope to speak it this weekend as proficiently as I can.

English is not required! Beer, coding and awesomeness are! Have fun Atridas and while doing so, achieve something that will let us have fun with it! 😀 Best of luck!

English doesn’t matter that much as long as you make something. :)

Inglish dasen mater… per sort!! 😀

Molt bona sort! 😀 Trobar gent propera que participa al LD ho fa especial. No tot han d’ésser desenvolupadors anglesos, oi??

Que ho disfrutis!!

Mornin’ everyone!!

I just woke up, 8a.m. here in Sabadell (Don’t bother searching it, make games). Yesterday I went to sleep at 3:30 (At 3 a.m. the theme was announced) so I had my subconsciouse do my work for avout 4:30 hours.

The good think: It worked! I have a fantastic idea.

The bad think: in order to be awake at 3 a.m. I partied a little… and now I have a hangover. Well I’ll get over it.

My game idea? Is somethink more like a table/card game. It’s pure mechanincs for now, and I’m excited for that; it’s a pure game!

Ok, here I go, game concept:

It’s a multiplayer symetric game (symetric means each player plays exactly the same), for any number of player from 2 to I have not decided yet (I will try to design it for 4 players and then I’ll do a game AI).

A player controls a set of “creatures” and will have a hand of cards. The player will assign cards to creatures, this cards will give attributes to the creatures. Then the creatures will fight to survive comparing it’s attributes to an enviromental card. Each turn a number of creatures will die and their cards will be discarted, but fear not, the surviving creatures will sure be stronger than the one dead, and you will pick your next cards depending on the surviving creatures’ cards.

Each turn you will win points depending on the surviving creatures cards, this opens up the main mechanic or, as Sid ‘my game design god’ Meyer said, the interesting choice: should I give my creatures cards that increase their chance of survival, or cards that give me points?

More when I have my rules written down.

Learning Slick

Here you have the first screenshot:

my first LD24 screenshot

my first LD24 screenshot

Just learning Slick. I wanted to try Unity this time, but the game idea is so 2D that I thought that would be a waste. So I’ll learn Slick real fast and I’ll start implementing this in a moment.

Now I’m starving, so I’ll go eat something and I’ll be back in a minute.

Nothing done, Everything is finished

I’m toying with slick as I begin to feel the hunger. I’m not yet started in programming the game BUT I have written ALL it’s design!

I have with me 4 A4 pages handwritten with the “manual” (style copied from Power Grid). The game is much more a table-card game than a videogame, and I kind of like that. Now all I have to do is implement it, the design is finished!

Also, I’m gonna cook something. No food, no joy!

My work till now

#gallery-1 { margin: auto; } #gallery-1 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-1 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-1 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */ IMAG0027 btjww

Here I have my lunch and everything I have done till this very moment. You can see some board games and also those papers are the game manual. I’m not decided in the name yet, and I fell I will have problems finding one original enough to not get as buried as “Evolving Creatures” would.

Repository on googlecode

So, I’ll have to release my code? DONE!

It’s on google-code. Once I learned to work with mercurial I can hardly work without it, so I just settet that up and uploaded to a repo I’ll be using (I hope) in forecoming editions.

http://code.google.com/p/atridas-ludum-dare/

Screenshot!

I have done something!!!!!

And best of almost everything: I’m quite sure I’m almost done doing art. It’s a time consuming task!

Now that I think off, I will need to draw 10 animals. And I just don’t want. At least today, so I’ll try to find a convenient placeholder…

Let’s call it a day

First day results

Ok, I’m finished for today. I have the game preparation finished (not yet, I need the AI to do it’s initial choices, but I will place a rnd so it won’t take that much).

Now I should make a list on what’s missing:

  • Make a Game State for each turn phase.
  • Make a popup window to see your rival’s cards.
  • Show your hand.
  • Show rival’s hand “colors”.
  • Write the score somewhere visible.
  • Make a tutorial (<- this one will be very hard and important!)
  • Make a menu.
  • Make a win/loose screen.
  • Make creature cards (jajajjajajaja that won’t happen. They will stay numbers. Sorry)
  • Sound effects, ambient music (mnnnch, I hope I have time for this one, I feel it’s important).

Nothing more comes to my mind, but this will keep me busy tomorrow, for sure.
