Ada

Hello.

I haven’t been documenting the development of Ada mainly because I feel I should use as much time as possible to complete the game on time. But now that I don’t think this game will get finished tonight I’ve decided to make  a post.

The point of Ada is to survive in the changing environment. You control this blob called Ada who is vulnerable to her environment but she can adapt by eating or drinking her environment. The longer Ada survives, the more points you get. That’s about it, you collect as many points as possible by adapting and surviving.

The game so far is unplayable but I aim to get the core of the game structure nailed today and then spend the rest of the day tomorrow to polish it up.

One of the questionable things I did today was to allocate 2-4 hours to create the sound effects and music. A more sensible developer may treat the sound as an optional feature or implement it in the last minute. But for me, sound is important in a game and should be mandatory. I don’t regret spending time on it.

Here are the libraries, tools, equipment I’m using or will be using:

Good luck!

Half participating

I’m making a game where you go through several platforming levels to find parts to build up a rocket to be launched into the sun and decimating it. There is a kiddy storyline to go with it but I’m not going to write about it here.

I probably won’t meet any of the deadlines because I have specific ideas which contain too much work to be done in a single weekend and I’m not wiling to cut most of it.

So why am I doing it? It’s because I’ve been thinking of doing a game like this for a long time but I haven’t got started on it yet. So maybe this game jam would provide me an excuse to start developing this game.

Spectrum (Mini-LD 43)

Well this game took me  longer than expected to make due to my inexperience with Unity but it’s now finally playable.

Spectrum still needs a lot of tweaking so feel free to leave feedback. Enjoy! :)

Day 1

Day 1 has come and gone and I feel I’m not half way through my game yet.

I’ve spent most of my day creating the assets so I didn’t cram much coding. Despite that,  I got the GUI, Audio Manager, Scene Manager, and my State machine done.

These are the tools I’ve been using:

– Unity

– Gimp

– TexturePacker

– Audacity

– LMMS

– BOSCA CEOIL

I’m not going to describe what the game is about because I want it to be a surprise but I’m going to leave one of the music here.

This is a list of things to do for tomorrow:

– Walk cycle animation

– Collision Detection (Characters)

– Collision Detection (Lasers)

– Lead Music 02

– Game Over Music

– Score Manager

– Player Manager

– Life Sprite

– GUI (Top Bar)

– Player controller

– Sound Effects (Shoot, hit)

– Particles (Lasers, Die)

– Timer 😉

Can you guess what this game is about?

I like the song. Does it have to do with space? :3

Nope. It’s set in a wireframe room. (Mainly because wireframes are easier for me to draw.) 😛

Ha Ha (LD29 Jam Entry)

Out of all of my Ludum Dare games, this is probably the most feature-complete. I’m a little disappointed I couldn’t fit in a cutscene explaining the story. It would have made the game a bit more relevant to the theme. Lol

Oh well. It’s a jam entry mainly because I have re-used some of the code and assets from my previous projects. I’ve also been heavily distracted by the Snooker and I could write down more excuses here if it isn’t 2AM right now.

Here are the list of tools I’ve used:

– Unity

– Gimp

– Inchworm Animation

– LMMS

– cfxr

You can play my game by clicking on the image below.

Plan

For this Ludum Dare, I will spend 3 days to create a first person adventure game where you explore strange places, collecting 5 eyeballs. There would be puzzles but I think I’m going to relax and make the bare minimum so it will have no puzzles. It’s just you going around places searching for eyes. I’ve had this game in my head for a a while now and soon as I saw that theme is compatible with my idea, I thought it would be great to use Ludum Dare to make a small prototype.

Here are the tools I’ll be using:

Unity

Gimp

LMMS

Audacity

sfxr

Arturia Minibrute

Good luck!

Lucy Dreaming

I just submitted my jam entry called Lucy Dreaming which you can find here.

I am quite pleased with the result as I’ve rarely made a 3D game. I’ve had this game on my mind for a while and I thought this particular Ludum Dare would be a perfect opportunity for me to build a quick prototype. Although the end result only resembles about 10% of my original idea, I am pleased that it’s playable and I hope I’ll have the time to do a post-compo version later this year.

The game would have had about 80% puzzles, 20% platforming, more eyes to collect, and several intertwined worlds to explore. Unfortunately, my limited skills could only allow me to implement a short platforming level in 3 days.

You wouldn’t have happened to named it based on the phenomenon of Lucid Dreaming would you.. :3

Donnie’s Escapade (October Challenge)

Hi, I just submitted a game for the October Challenge. Enjoy.
