Where I’m at Around the 1 Day Mark…

I guess it’s about time I give my one day update. I think I might be the only person to be doing a first person horror game (as far as I know from browsing posts from time to time, please don’t virtually scrutinize me if you are). I’m more of an artist than programmer, so I figured I’d let my creativeness flow into a horror game. I’m not too focused on graphical realism as I am making the horror feel real. In other words, Its not gonna be a “jump scare” fest :-)

I use psychological elements to make the player go “Did I just see a shadow?” or “I swear someone’s following me”  . Not just “where did that horribly designed monsters just come from to pop out at my face…..”.

I’ve got the plot line for the game layed out, and although it’s pretty short, I’ve got some nice horror elements displayed in a short amount of time. I’ve got most of the level designed, as well as the main enemy designed. The game takes place in an abandoned mine shaft/ bunker, so the enemy is a deranged miner who uses a drill and a pick axe. I’ve got the player in the game to the point where he can walk around, open and close doors, and end the game. I haven’t done anything with the enemy yet, so currently Im coding the enemy and doing his animations simultaneously.

I might not have much time for it. but I’m trying to deploy an Outlast style dynamic enemy system, where the enemy does not operate on a fixed path. After I finish the enemy programming, I have to work on the lighting and the sound design, which I want to be the main focus of the game. Good Luck to everyone in the last 24 hours of the comp and the last 48 of the jam!!!

Here’s a screenshot of the game so far: RenderTest1

LD30

LUDUM DARE 30 LETS GOOOOO!!!!!

Hi guys! I’m super excited about LD30 next weekend and I can’t wait to get started! This is my technically my 2nd LD competition (I started 29, but due to unfortunate complications I had to drop out). I’d love to make a horror game of sorts, because I have a few great ideas that I never got to implement because of having to drop out last time. I’ll be using

Engine: Unity3d

Language: C# and a bit of Javascript

Modeling and Animation: 3ds Max

Texturing: photoshop

I’m looking forward to this months competition, and I can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with. After spending a few years watching and learning, I’m ready to fully get into it! Good luck to every one participating!

Progress at the 24 Hour Mark

Hi Guys! Hope Everyone is having a great LD30 so far! Currently designing a horror game for “Connected Worlds”, where the connected world is the ghost world that exists in every day life. You are documenting evidence of the paranormal at a remote house, and you start to piece together that the previous owner had summoned a demon…and the demon has arrived.

I’ve got the entire house modeled now, and Im ready to move into programming and sound/lighting. I just went out and bought a bottle of Mt. Dew(And since it is Code Red, does that mean my coding ability will be enhanced? :p) and I’m ready to finish strong in the final 24 hours! Good Luck to Everyone!Progress Check 1
