Where I’m at Around the 1 Day Mark…
I guess it’s about time I give my one day update. I think I might be the only person to be doing a first person horror game (as far as I know from browsing posts from time to time, please don’t virtually scrutinize me if you are). I’m more of an artist than programmer, so I figured I’d let my creativeness flow into a horror game. I’m not too focused on graphical realism as I am making the horror feel real. In other words, Its not gonna be a “jump scare” fest
I use psychological elements to make the player go “Did I just see a shadow?” or “I swear someone’s following me” . Not just “where did that horribly designed monsters just come from to pop out at my face…..”.
I’ve got the plot line for the game layed out, and although it’s pretty short, I’ve got some nice horror elements displayed in a short amount of time. I’ve got most of the level designed, as well as the main enemy designed. The game takes place in an abandoned mine shaft/ bunker, so the enemy is a deranged miner who uses a drill and a pick axe. I’ve got the player in the game to the point where he can walk around, open and close doors, and end the game. I haven’t done anything with the enemy yet, so currently Im coding the enemy and doing his animations simultaneously.
I might not have much time for it. but I’m trying to deploy an Outlast style dynamic enemy system, where the enemy does not operate on a fixed path. After I finish the enemy programming, I have to work on the lighting and the sound design, which I want to be the main focus of the game. Good Luck to everyone in the last 24 hours of the comp and the last 48 of the jam!!!
