Change of Plans

I started a programming club at my school a while ago and planned to compete in the Ludum Dare. Unfortunately, I only managed to start it a few weeks ago, so most people aren’t great at programming. I was going to enter the Ludum Dare alone like I normally do, but a friend (who happens to be in the club) mentioned to me today that he still wants to compete. I mentioned it to another friend in the club and he also said he wanted to compete. I now have two people who want to compete. So here’s what we’ll be working with:

Language: C++
Libraries: SDL
OS: Windows and Linux

Yay Linux!! Don’t worry you have three months after this one to get your club up to scratch. :-)

Hey, I’m planning to start a club at my school soon too! Do you have any good ideas for activities?

Well this is done.

Main menu is done. I have a friend working on music for the game, and I’m working on the programming. We’ve also got another programmer, but he’s not available now. Oh well. Here’s a current screenshot. The menu buttons will change. This is of course, very early development.

The game is called “Aboard Prometheus 211.” It’s a space game focusing on problems facing the crew. I won’t say much more other than the fact that very little of the music is in a major key.

It finally works

For some reason mouse input wasn’t working for my game. I tried for a good hour to get it working last night, and I just fixed the problem. However there’s a new problem. I had Solo and Ensamble at school a couple weeks ago. The judge gave me a perfect score and now I’m going to state Solo and Ensamble. Which is today. Great. Looks like I’ll be gone for about five and a half hours.

Well, Back to Programming!

Solo and ensemble today. I did pretty well, but I was away from the computer for eight hours, so it wasn’t incredibly productive. My parents brought me to a restaurant afterwards. My food took a bit longer to make then everyone else’s, and then the waitress completely forgot about it so I was sitting there for around ten extra minutes without food. Luckily, she was kind enough to buy me free desert. (It’s strawberry cheesecake.)Image

Back to programming now!

Characters!

characters

Here are four of the nine characters from our game! You play as the least interesting of all of them; the bald guy. His name is Erik, but don’t let that fool you; it doesn’t make him any more interesting.

More Characters. I’m starting to think this will take more than this weekend.

Nine characters now. Erik, Anthony, Lucy, Kurt, Henry, Abigail, Jasmine, Elizabeth, and Arnold.characters

Like I said before, you are the least interesting person out of the entire group; Erik. He’s the bald guy. Being bald makes him slightly more interesting, but not much. Everyone else is just plain more interesting. We have player sprites, music, a basic outline for a very deep and depressing story, and some code. Other than that, not much. I’m starting to think that my team will have it done by monday night. Oh well, if we don’t finish it, then we can still make it on our own, but we’ll just have more time for developing it.

I’m in.

I’m taking another attempt at this. Maybe if I’m really lucky I can get a working game for once. Even if I don’t, I’ll still probably learn a lot that I can use in the future.

IDE: Code::Blocks
Art: Gimp
Language: C++
Library: SDL
OS: Arch, plus Windows for compatibility.

I may also have a friend joining in for a Jam.

Need some time to think…

“Connected Worlds”

Oh great. Let’s see if I can come up with something for this. This may be difficult. Or maybe I can take an idea I never got around to developing and try to get it to fit. I’ll probably figure it out in the shower later. I just got back from vacation and really need one. First though, I’ll watch a few youtube videos that I’ve missed.

New Idea

18 hours left of the Jam, and I still have nothing. I got a bit ambitious and ended up losing interest and confidence in the project five hours in. Since then, I’ve gone back to what I normally do with my free time; researching AI and neuroscience. Then it hit me… what if I create a game where you play as someone’s Prefrontal Cortex? Other parts of the brain send you vague messages and you need to make decisions solely based on that! Maybe I can finish it in time with this new idea. First though, I need to get to bed. It’s nearly 2 AM.

Going to Try This

It’s been a while since I’ve made an attempt at this. Maybe I’ll actually finish something for once. I’ve improved a lot over the past year or two. Going to go for “Growing.”
