Crab is very crab

Hello everyone! :)

I’m Jan from Germany, and I’m taking part in the Jam with J and Lin from the US West coast. We’re using UE4 and making a weird little drunk-brainstormed game that lets us practice interesting things and generally have fun while hanging out :) I was going to say I bet it’ll fail spectacularly, but now somehow it’s 11am and we have something resembling hope. I should go to bed soon.

We opted for simplicity with the theme and went for an underwater setting. The game itself will probably be a cross between space invaders and tower defense, but without towers? It all made sense when we wrote it down earlier.

Look, fishies:

Fishies!

Fishies!

So, yeah. I’m pretty excited to work with these two, we’re actually getting stuff done! Awesome :) Not a bad first night of our very first game jam! Now it’s bedtime, and then back to work. (Apparently I live according to a US West coast sleep schedule now.)

For reference, the tools we’re using are:

  • UE4 Blueprints for prototyping and making the game logic
  • 3dsMax and Blender for modeling and animation
  • Allegorithmic Substance Designer and Substance Painter for texturing, baking and all sorts of texture stuff

But for now, good night!

Dapper crab is getting its guns

Slowly, but surely.

Crab and fish are animated now, though we’re still having some problems with our pipeline. Blender and UE4 don’t mix very well. I also keep getting distracted with minor unimportant things that are fun and make stuff pretty, but aren’t at all necessary or even central to the game. Game logic is still not fully done, but Lin is working hard on dapper crab’s guns. He just hates fish, that one.

Can I just stress what an awesome job J has done making and animating a crab in pretty much less than a day? :)
