The beggining

Here goes.

I’m new here, decided to start making games in my spare time as a software engineering student.

Lots of programming background, no asset creation background leads to a fairly standard software developper.

My two friends and I will be participating in this Mini-LD as a test run, we will be logging our progress here.

I will be posting a link to our trello board/ github repo later on today, feel free to send feature requests once they’re up.

Mini-LD update

Hey, this is an update for our 3 person game.

Briefly, the concept was to create an RPG that could be played using only 1 button on the keyboard. This has led to some *interesting* design choices.

Journey so far :

We’ve gotten most of the sprites done, quite a bit of the music and the game engine is essentially complete. Here’s a screenshot of the latest build :

You can find our SVN repository in http://www.assembla.com/code/flaming-octopus-ninja-the-game/subversion/nodes

It’s in Python 2.7 with pygame

Mini-LD 35 complete

We’ve completed the game, finally.

To play, download the rar : https://dl.dropbox.com/u/41565231/octopus_miniLD35.rar

The game is main.exe

For those who want to see the source, http://www.assembla.com/code/flaming-octopus-ninja-the-game/subversion/nodes (Be warned, it’s a battlefield in there)

We’ve implemented nowhere near as much as we thought we would, but we’ve managed to get a fairly polished first act out. The game is a story-based rpg. We decided to be unique by making the game playable using only one button. We made everything from scratch for the fun of it, which led to next level programmer art throughout the game. The longest part of the development was spent on the “flow-engine”, the engine that deals with config files to generate levels,  config and manage the button interrupts as well as store any decisions you make as the character.

We had lots of fun and will definitely do this again, without the many distractions hopefully.

Joining the jam as a techy trio

Hey guys/gals!

We’re joining the jam as a team of 3, all of us coders, all of us bad at art. This is our first true LD, having messed around with a mini before, so we’re excited to see what we can do.

Our tech stack will be unity, and we’ll probably have to find a way to code some art.

Cheers, and gl hf
