So the theme is: You are the Monster.

Try this:

• Replace ‘you’ with the older ‘ye’: ‘Ye are the Monster’ and this pushes the label onto a whole group of people/beings/triangles (screw triangles).
• Notice the definite article ‘the’: you’re the Monster. The boss. The Grandest of Poobahs. Maybe you’re a monster because you’re so strong you can get a 999x combo with your fancy slashy swords, or a combo with your multi-coloured bubble matching skills (totally original this, naturally … ), or you command an army (or party) of lesser monsters (in a sort of mash-up between action and RTS-eque games).
• Then there’s the verb ‘are’: so presently, right now, at this moment in time, you’re the monster. It’s possible you weren’t a monster a little while ago, and it’s also possible you won’t stay a monster forever.

Nietzsche so spake:

‘He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you.’

• So: a game of chicken. Two players, both gazing into the empty boringness of the abyss. The one who gazes the longest wins, the one who pulls away first loses. Gazed too long and now you’re become a monster? No problem! Either [a] the monstrous player loses immediately (smaller scope) or [b] there’s an epic showdown between the two players (somewhat bigger scope). Something like that.

Also, if someone does end up making the last idea, definitely keep me in the loop. That actually seems sort of fun in a weird, I-think-I’m-the-monster-but-maybe-not kind of way.

Still need to work on the player character model but I couldn’t resist making these. Somewhere along the path of Ludum Dare, I lost my way and I’ve ended making something completely outside of what I intended to make. Oh, dear.
