LD18

First time competing.

Will be developing in C with SDL and Cairo.  May pick snippets of code from some of my demos.  If it strikes me, I’ll compose some audio with FL Studio.

my demos are posted at Github: http://github.com/acdimalev

Planning to write an arcade-style action game (playable solo, other players can join in at any time).

Progress

Well… I’ve got a concept.  Basic game logic is under-way.  Plan is to develop a fully functional game before working on graphics and audio.

Right now I’m just posting bare source.  Binaries will come tomorrow.

I don’t know why I am tired, but it gets bloody hot in the morning out here, so I guess it is really for the best.  Catch you all in five hours!

Well, that didn’t take long.

Circles and Squares are no longer cutting it for what I’m trying to do, so I’ve begun work on a “part” editor.

Breaking for lunch.

Game on!

Don’t be fooled,

it’s not there to try and look pretty.

Took a good break to look around.

Some fun and exciting stuff going on here — I’m anxious to play the final entries!

Spent nearly half of the past day developing an editor that I’m not going to use. Impact on the game is that there will be only one enemy type and multiplayer is going to be confusing.

To make my game eligible for competition, I need to complete a game mechanic that will involve writing a physics engine and a depth-first rasterer. Once I finish those (hopefully without too many bugs), I have way too many things to work on.

Not really sure how much I’m going to finish before the deadline.

Alright… here goes!

AHG!

So I was moving along, getting stuff done, real happy-like with my progress, and then I suddenly realized in horror that I’ve just created scenarios that break all of my current game logic.  These scenarios are a necessary part of the central game mechanic.

I don’t if I’ll finish in time.

Oh, and here’s the Github page for the project for anyone interested.

Workstations and All That

Eighteen hours to go… .  So I’ve got this computer that I’m going to use for the competition.

computer internals

At the moment, this is the only computer I have.  Power supply is still in the mail.  I guess if it doesn’t arrive on time, I might just close up the case and use it as a desk.

Depending on what comes to mind, I’ll either be building a game with FlashPunk, Flixel, C+SDL, possibly OpenGL 3, or just pen and paper.  Really haven’t committed to a medium yet on this;  I’d like to keep my options open!  And just in case I don’t pull my desktop together before the competition, I am actively considering building a choose-your-own-adventure website.

With a make-shift desk, a stock of pens, a ream of paper, and my trusty phone, anything is possible!

oh man, pen and paper game would be cool.

nonsense is Good to Go!

Workstation is in one piece.  The technical on it is more than I’m going to describe here.  No webcam, and time-lapse is out of the question at this point.  But OpenGL’s up and running and I’ve got a game concept to run with.  YEAH!

OpenGL running on nonsense

Time to pull a concept together!

Plan B

When I started, I intended to make a puzzle game.  However, I had every intention to fail; puzzles aren’t really my thing.  I had no intention of building a maze, no real interest in building a maze.  Welp… I’ve decided to try and rescue this thing, so I guess it’s a maze.

Let’s see if I can wrap up a proper binary in the next couple hours!

Well… That’s It

48 hours of fiddling with GLUT and GLEW while building my new workstation.  In fact, I just finished setting up sound on my workstation this morning!  And I just got the details worked out for building a couple binaries.  You can now download a 32-bit Windows binary and an x86-64 Linux binary here.

For anything else, you’re welcome to grab the source and try building it.  Heck, feel free to contact me if you are trying to build it for anything else.  Whether or not you encounter any problems, I’d like to know!

Let’s do this.

No plans, no preparation, 48 hours.

See you when I wake up.

For Mini LD 37…

I successfully did not make a game.  I did not, however, manage to make a not-game.

Looking forward to the October challenge!

Minimalism…

you know, as opposed to anything you’d fit into a game built in 48 hours.
