Ludum Dare 37

I’m in!

My first Ludum Dare, hoping for the best.

Also posting so I’ll have a reason to participate rather than just watching other people.

LD 42

I'm in!

My first time went quite well, let's see how this one will go.

Recently I've been looking for excuses to code some stuff, and just thought of checking out when the next Ludum Dare would be, when I saw it was only a couple days away, I clicked join without thinking (which might've been a bad idea, since my sleep schedule is all kinds of messed up right now.)

Anyway, I'm planning to use this as a reason to learn Godot, so I probably should stop thinking about something to write and go learn Godot instead.

So, good luck to everyone who joined. And let's hope everything goes well.

My first 4 hours

I generally don't do this kind of blogging stuff, so I hope this isn't terrible.

Anyway, the first couple hours went quite well for me. Found a idea I liked and got the basic mechanics down pretty fast. And all that while having some minor internet connectivity issues (Is Twitch streaming really that hard on your upload? I'm sitting at about 4 stream restarts and 2 modem resets at this point.)

When I decided to check here to see what everyone else is up to, I realised how basic what I came up was. But then, I'm using an engine I started learning about 3 days ago, so that probably was a good thing.

Also, I probably should do more blog posts since as I was writing this, I had a pretty good idea, so we'll see how this ends up.

A random screenshot

I see a lot of people posting nice screenshots with nice graphics and stuff, so here's a screenshot with terrible graphics.

Looking for feedback.

Just exported a debug build of my entry, any feedback welcome!

Looking for feedback (again)

The game is over at https://ecmelberk.com/ld42/test02/

I changed some stuff related to movement and added some graphics. Any feedback is welcome!

A day well spent.

It's been 24 hours! And boy I did a lot of stuff in that time (at least, more than I expected I could do)

Here's a build of my game if anyone wants to play: https://ecmelberk.com/ld42/test04/ (test01-03 do exist, in case you want to see the game's evolution)

I hope this won't be like the previous Ludum Dare I entered where I do everything in a single day and just spend 2 hours doing absolutely nothing the second day.

Worried about music...

My game is basically done at this point, so I decided to try to make some music.

The thing is, I don't know how music "works".

I open Bosca Ceoil, and just stare at it. I know how the program works, it's just I can't think of anything. And when I try out some stuff, it sounds OK-ish, but doesn't relate to the "feel" of the game, which is even more infuriating than not being able to do anything.

I can always submit without music, but wouldn't the game feel incomplete?

I'm Done!

Finally done! phew

Check my game out over at https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/$103509

(There's only a single level under "hell", since testing even that was too much time, and I didn't want to do that for 2 more (there wouldn't be enough time anyway)

Anyway, had a great time, and if the videos actually recorded without any issues, a timelapse might go up on my YT channel soon (20+ hours of recording)
