My first LD

Hey, this is my first Ludum Dare—I hope I do okay. I’m having fun so far! I’m writing my game in Actionscript 3 and using the Flex SDK, so it’ll be a Flash game. I have to admit that I don’t really like the theme. My take on it is pretty conceptual, though, as you’ll find out. Here’s a screenshot of the little I have achieved so far, in the meanwhile:

That little guy sorta looks like the guy from Braid… only, more… square.

I didn’t get the time to learn Python, mirosurabu. :/ But PyWeek is coming soon, so that’s alright!

Heart

It’s actually not done, but it’s as done as it’ll get within these 48 hours. It’s mostly done, though! Enjoy.

I like it, especially the halfway point in the rotation and how you interpret trying to go left.

I think what you’ve done here, whatever it is, is cool.

Really, really cool. Loved the music.

Graphics are stylish – I like that. I can see the influence from Defect and I can feel something going on there – the atmosphere is well done. Though, I am not sure I understood the underlying message.

I felt like my soul had been flayed, dipped in lemon juice then fed through a sausage grinder while being repeatedly punched in my still-wet skinless face.

Hope!

[edit: This is not my entry into the competition! This was posted after the deadline. See Heart for my actual entry.]

I also made another game yesterday, in two hours, during the Klik of the Month. It’s called ‘Hope!’, and since I also followed the Ludum Dare theme with it, why not share it with you, guys.

So, games

I wrote a post in my blog about what constitutes a game, due to the reception that my entry to the competition, Heart, got. I hope to bring a differing point of view into the Ludum Dare dissection table for everyone to discuss, and for all to come out more inspired to make games.

By the way, I’ll finish the game properly and then I’ll write a post-mortem. It’s not too far from finished, actually.

Colorful cavern

Well, I started out really late. I was busy Friday night and all Saturday, so I only started last night. Progress has been slow, since I’m such a terrible programmer. No doubt I won’t finish this, but here’s a screenshot to prove that I am at least trying. Animated, it seems as if you were zooming through the colorful tunnel you see below. Making this for Flash using FlashDevelop and Flex SDK.

Cave Trip is ‘finished’

With only a day to make it, and given the fact that I’m no speed programmer, this is all I could manage. Play the thing over here (Flash). I’ll upload a timelapse in a while.

Cave Trip timelapse

Had I known that I was going to end up with such an uninteresting game, I wouldn’t have bothered, but since I already did, here’s the timelapse video. At least it’s a short one.

Argh, sorry, mrfun. I was trying to remove the text below the embedded video, but it took out the embed in the process, and it won’t let me put it back in. I appreciate that you embedded it, it was just my mistake. :/

A teaser

Since no one would play what I have so far anyway, here’s a teaser animated gif of what I’m doing:

Climbrunner

Thing is done. Last few hours were intense. I haven’t played the whole game yet, so it may be totally off here or there. Let me know of any major trip ups, if you decide to give it a try.

Game is about navigating a maze while running along the ceiling. Or something. Play it.

Grab some tiny pixel font here.

That would be spoiling it somewhat.

My AS3 stuff

Hello. So, it seems that I’m back to participate in this LD. It’s been a while. For that reason, and to for once stick to the rules, I’ll be sharing the actionscript 3 code I work with. Lots of halfway-done stuff in there, and nothing terribly interesting, I guess, but hey, I’m just doing this to stick to the rules. You’re free to take what you like from it, though.

Some included things that may be of interest to some: a ‘Brush’ class for drawing applications (that draws nice curves rather than angles and that can also adjust the width of the line depending on the speed of movement); a class to manage Google API AS3 lib image searches; extensions to some EventDispatcher classes that add event listener management; an abstract class for making preloaders; random smaller utilities.
