Getting down to business.
It was about 4 o' clock on Friday when I decided to go for it and do the Ludum Dare. The themes wouldn't be announced for a few hours. I went out and found the theme voting, after voting for my favorites, I decided to start thinking about what games I would make for each theme. I came up with a couple of ideas for each theme. They are listed here if you want to take a look. Ideas
I had some ideas and all I had to do was wait for the theme to be announced. I went out to dinner with my family. After dinner, and after getting the kids put to bed, I sat down and got down to work.
I knew I wanted to make a 3D game, so I started out with the bug idea. The idea was that you would a small bug on a dog/ or other animal and you'd be fighting other bugs. I pictured a small map with large tree like fur, and that as a bug you'd be able to jump really high. So I spent the first few hours that night headed in that direction, but things kept getting in my way. I was playing with the terrain object in Unity3d and that was giving me some trouble. Also I couldn't figure out how to get my player to launch a rigidbody object like a projectile. The projectile was a long pencil like object. I was having issues with rotation and direction and trajectory. I spent way more time on this then I should have. I went to bed after about 3 hours of work.
I tossed and turned in bed thinking about the game, and the theme, and then the snow globe idea hit me.
I'd create a small world inside a snow globe, and the snow man is the perfect protagonist in a snow globe environment.
I had a fresh new idea upon awaking and was ready to take my jam in a new direction.
