Hi, all!

I’m 100% in for my first Ludum Dare compo and super excited about the weekend. I’ve participated in mini-LDs before very casually, but have wanted to join in compo for some time so grouped up with friends in area who are all in to do compo separately-together. So, the cat memes are gathered, beer is being cooled, the tablet is warmed up, and I’m READY TO GO.

I’m primarily a designer/artist, so I’m mostly resigned to the fact my game will end up looking pretty but play like a donkey’s butt. I am, however, prepared to be pleasantly surprised. Will probably use Construct 2, Paint SAI/PS, Spriter, Sibelius/Bosca Ceoil and duct tape, because duct tape fixes everything.

Also, the group of us doing compo will be streaming tomorrow here! If you ever wanted to watch a bunch of people in Duesseldorf, Germany slowly grow more panicked, check it out. I’ll also be procrastatweeting here, more than likely. Good luck to all, and enjoy your ludicious pre-jam activities.

Well, it’s been an interesting LD so far! Since we’re based in DDorf, Germany, the theme came up at 3am this morning for us so we opted the less stressful route of just taking it slow after we woke up. I’m doing the compo, and it’s been a pretty rageful day full of making the game do the thing, then do the other thing, then the first thing breaks and spending two hours figuring out why the thing did that.

My entry is called ‘Sneakeasy‘, where you play a devious bartender in the 1920’s prohibition era. You’ve got a reputable resturant, but you’re secretly sneaking boozehounds some tiddly in the backroom. Cops come in and eat at your restaurant & you’ve gotta keep the food coming, otherwise they’re gonna get angry and start pokin’ around in your business. It correlates to ‘Beneath The Surface’ because a lot of legit businesses at the time were speakeasies under the surface.

Other ideas I had included a game where you play as an oven and it’s your job to cook the food just right using ATEs (like, you don’t want it raw beneath the surface, do you?) and an undercover cop dance party.

Hey guys! I’m back for my second Ludum Dare, the last one being ‘Beneath the Surface’. For us, this theme is kinda strange but we’re going to challenge ourselves to the max by… makin’ a one-screen RPG epic, kinda inspired by D’n’D-combined-with-a-slot-machine and the silliness that goes on while you’re playing. It’s been really fun trying to see how much info we can effectively fit on the screen and stuff, and I’m looking forward to seeing where our game goes. Have a preliminary sketch, and will be checkin’ in regularly with you all!

All the player avatars for different races and genders are done for our LD31 game, Chance Encounter! It’s a one-screen RPG epic adventure combined with… a slots machine. Yeah, I dunno either, but you can play as a duck with a tophat.

Still a day left for the jam, which means we’re polishing the UI of our one-screen-RPG-slot-machine-adventure game. I think this has been the most awesome LD so far for me!

In, as always, for Ludum Dare with Group Pug! As usual, I’m the art workhorse and the other half of Group Pug (Michael) will be coding. Right now, he’s doin’ AI and stuff. Look at you, doin’ stuff! Whenever we do LD, we’re relatively lucky in the fact that ideas come to us quite quickly and we can get stuck in, which is great because LD is being fit around a lot of other engagements this weekend – soooo, full steam ahead!

We really wanted to make a local multiplayer game, so we’re making a top down two player game where you both play as sirens, trying to score points by using your voice to lure ships into the rocky outcrops near you. Hoping to do some cool stuff with changing the pitch of your voice = changing the direction of the ships, stealing influence of another siren’s ship etc. This is a poor, poor preliminary sketch, but perhaps it’ll give you some idea of something.

Sirens in the bottom left and right corners, ships coming from the top of the screen to pass through the gap downwards. Currently working on pathfinding AI and I’m just doing assets. Splash is pretty much done already, though I’ll come back to touch up the background painting later:
