LD23

i’m finally in!!

Howdy People!

This is the second ludum after i was aware of such a thing. So i can’t miss this one as well for one thing. I “love” game jams. I’m pretty much awake all day anyways, why not spend that time on creating a game. :)

As this is my first time, and i kinda’ have a bet about this with a friend, i’ll sail safe. So i will probably use:

– AS3 with Flixel and Box2D if needed. (if i dare and try something in 3D, i’ll be using Unity most probably.)

-FlashDevelop(or MonoDevelop in case i go with Unity) as IDE, or VIM for little editing works.

-A pixel editor, pyxel edit, paint .net etc.

-I might need GIMP too.

-For sketches, inspirations i’ll most probably fool around with Alchemy(http://al.chemy.org/) and Harmony(http://mrdoob.com/projects/harmony/).

-I’ll Keep DAME ready just in case  if i need tilemaps.

-About the music and SFX i’m not really sure how i will figure it. But BFXR seems popular around here, and i’ll probably try Audiotool(http://www.audiotool.com/) for the theme and such.

Unfortunately i don’t have some personal base that i use frequently yet, i would love to share one if i did. Hopefully i’ll be online on irc and twitter and try my best to be a helpful member of the community.

Lastly i wish for an inspirational, and game-friendly :P, theme so we could see over a thousand entries.

So far it all seems magnificent. Nice Ludum everyone!

ProgressISH

Must admit, I had trouble finding an idea that could fit in the theme.

Spent 6 or more hours sleeping already, but now i’m going with a “literal” interpretation of tiny world.

After a few hours of coding, and slacking, i got a “solar system importer”. I’m planning on having real massive amounts of these in the game to make you feel tiny as much as possible.

Haven’t decide the artistic side or the entire goal of the game yet. But still i got this (unrealistic)solarSystemScreenShot for you guys.

Keep going! :)

that real tiny dot in the middle will be our tiny Earth, hopefully. :)

brace yourselves, deadline approaches…

O hai everyone!

2/3 of the time had passed. As usual, i’m not at 2/3 completion according to my initial thoughts, but that could be foreseen. :)

I kinda switch between coding and drawing when i’m bored of doing one, so they both sort of going together. So far:

– I got dynamic planet shadows, according to their position and distance to sun etc.

– Png based map editing, didn’t really pay attention to this, cuz i won’t be doing so many different solar systems.

– Planet based  gravity things. (was hard to configure, so i will try to perfect it if i find the time.)

– And a solid idea how to turn this into a game.

– A nice space background with blinking stars. :)

Here’s the ss of my progress ’till now:

After this i’m gonna implement:

– an orbiting system for moons and the usual planets soon to be added.

– a fuel(based on core temperature of the earth. :P) dynamic. Movement(and some secret :) cool actions) will be based on that. not to mention that you can charge that by coming near to sun(beware it’s gravitational force btw.).

– as i mentioned moons; our goal will probably be collecting( or even destroying by throwing them into sun? ) other planets’ moons.

– and a GUI of course, with some stroy telling. 😀

Then it comes to polishing, issues are basicly these:

– particles, particles, particles. as Napo… sorry Notch says.

– Gravitational Auras, so you will be aware what you are approaching to. :) < Kinda Angry Birds Space ripoff. >

– Probably asteroids, comets and such independent bodies, that you can crash into.

We’ll see how much i will be able to put into my game in last 12 hours.

Peace out ’till my next update. Good luck!
