Alprog’s Jam Top 5

Hey! I just finished playing and rate 50 JAM games and this is my TOP 5:

#1. Potato dungeon.

Combat system of this game is unusual but very cool (control sword’s direction by mouse).
This feature was enough to get good rating but beyond that the gameplay is constantly changing and does not get bored. There are a lot new abilities during game (unexpected but awesome).
And stylish graphic. And logic puzzle. And bosses. And humour. The best one.

Not very clear keyboard control, but it is not critical. I willing to buy full version :)

# 2. Leaf Me Alone

Not very attractive screenshot? Play it! In fact, the game is much prettier in dynamics.  It is charming story where you will not have to kill anyone. Just find the objects and learn to use them. Best level design, that I seen on competition and organic tips about control. So beautiful, so cute, so indie way. Must play.

# 3. Mustache Armies

Actually, I did not complete this one. It crashes on my computer at the end of game :(
But anyway it is very exciting gameplay. Each of your killed soldiers is transferred to the next round and repeat all the movement. Until the screen is flooded by mustache army! Epic and fun!

# 4. Moonshine

Very simple gameplay:  just go to the finish and do not fall into the trap. But atmosphere is great. Darkly. Lonely. Beautiful.

# 5. Cpt. Sqrjaw

Enemies fly into pieces according to the laws of physics! And sometimes you need create a mountain of corpses to climb up and complete a game. Is not that cool?

Ludum Dare 48

Snow white princess comes to the scene!

Checkout our day-per-day progress in our shooter with resource management elements.

Day 1:

First day was about brainstorming, game design and project setup. We decided to make game about snow white princess with a rifle who manage gnomes to gather resources and defend them from the monsters. Princess used drill-machine to drill from level to level and she need to carry gnomes on her own from machine to resource deposit and back.

At the end of day 1 we had only debug view for simple steering behavior system (for crowd of monsters). Our artist have done princess sprite (the main thing is to develop a style) but it was not integrated in game yet.

Day 2:

Day2.png

Day 2 gives us sprites for enemies, gnomes, some animations and even the background. Much better now, huh? Did you notice that shadow is not circle anymore? It is ellipse instead. That is: we squeezed Y-coordinate to simulate perspective. Character control started feels much better at this points. Enemies was able to walk, avoid obstacles and beat you. We also started to work on the global map.

Day 3:

The last day was about animations, shooting, gnome carrying mechanic. Unfortunately, we had to cut the global map but in the last hours we implement shop between levels instead. We also spent last time on game balance, inserting free music and sound fx, and even made tutorial screen.
