‘Species’

Woke up an hour ago here in the UK. Tough theme but I’m going to give it a go.

No flash of inspiration yet, but starting to formulate some ideas.

I think the title will be ‘Species’… or maybe ‘Neanderthal’ .. or..

Getting started on the code for Species

Finally pulled together some sort of idea for Species. The gist is:

“Humans have evolved into 2 separate species. The aggressive, dominant species are keeping the good natured species imprisoned underground working for them. You lead the rebellion!”

Ok needs a bit of work but enough to make a start.

Will use the following tools/libs:

I’ll post the code as it progresses on GitHub: https://github.com/alwaysinbeta/species

To work!

‘Species’ coming along but lots to do!

Made some progress on Species, although still need levels, sound and an ending.

Enemy AI needs work, at the moment they are shooting themselves!

Decided to try out Ogmo to create the levels: http://www.ogmoeditor.com/

It’s really easy to use fortunately!

Got started on GFX this morning. Nothing fancy but hopefully a step up from red and green squares:

I’m in for my 2nd LD

Second LD. Have been tidying up my base code and jotting ideas down for the final round themes in preparation.

Not going to have that much time to dedicate over the weekend so I’m going to try to keep it simple and focussed.

Code-wise I’ll be using my framework at https://github.com/ianmcgregor/games along with the Starling rendering engine, Nape physics engine and Ogmo level editor.

Tools I’ll use are: FDT, PhotoShop, TexturePacker, Sfxr and Audacity.

Starting to make progress

ld27_progress

Beginning to get close to having the basic game play done. I just got laser beam intersection working. This game is going to be really simple. My main focus will be on trying my best to make it fun to play!

LD28

Ok, I’m in!

A bit late to the party, but will be attempting to make my first HTML5 game.

Tools:

Code: phaser.io (HTML5 game framework based on Pixi.js and Flixel)

Art: photoshop, tiled map editor, audacity and  abundant music.

LD29

IN!

Theme feels good. Should have a bit of time this weekend. Woohoo!

Tools:

Phaser – JavaScript game engine

Sublime Text – Coding

Photoshop – Gfx

Audacity – Sfx

Probably Sfxr or some other sound generation tools.

Day one

ld29-update

Time to call it a night. After struggling with the unnecessarily complex code I wrote initially, I’ve finally got something vaguely playable with some basic art. Will require lots of work on the gameplay to make it fun, some sfx and animations/gfx polish. Oh and a name would help.. .

LD31

Wait for me! I’m in

Do not like this theme but what the hell at least it’s totally open in one respect.

Going to use Phaser/JavaScript, Bfxr, Audacity and trying out GoyaPixel and Piskel for the graphics.

Starting to get going

ld31-1

Not much to show yet, but behind the scenes the basic game skeleton is done and I’ve got a nice feel for the basic movement and jump of my hero.

LD34

I’m two buttons in

Going with JavaScript for code, PhotoShop for art and probably Bfxr/Audacity for audio.

Might use Phaser or Pixi depending on what idea I come up with.

Hope everyone has a lot of fun!

LD 39

Power Up!

Finally awake and I'm in! A few Ludum Dare's have passed since I could last make it so looking forward to this one.

Tools will be JavaScript/PixiJS for code, Sketch/PhotoShop for art, Reaper/Synths for audio.

First off though pencil and paper!

Happy to report I've now hit the crucial 20 ratings mark in each category. I've also had some great feedback which should hopefully help me to improve in some areas. It's also been a lot of fun playing everyone's games, which I will continue to enjoy doing over the next days!

It's here if anyone wants to try it -- leave a comment and I'll check out your game too!
