LD25

I’m In… As well…

So, here’s my semi-mandatory cliché “I’m In” post, even though I usually hate clichés, I’m quite excited to be writing this one.

This is my first LD, so let’s see what will come of it! I’ve not come prepared for this weekend whatsoever, but I do know that I’m probably going to enjoy it quite a lot. Very excited about all the themes, mostly because mine is still in (The End of the World… Again, cliché…).

And of course, seeing as this is an I’m In post, here’s a picture of my desktop setup.

Don’t worry, it’s not normally this cleaned up!

And now time for some boring technical details that only creators will care about:
For this game, I’ll be using OpenTK with C#, and my own UtilsTK library, the source code of which I’ll post in the very near future. Even though I’m using C#, I’ll make this game cross-platform and open source, so that Linux users (of which I’m one :)) will be able to play it, and maybe even Mac users… If they’re nice… xD
But anyway, I’ll be using Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 to develop this. I’d use MonoDevelop on Linux, but Windows is way better for time lapses, of which I will be doing one, so look forward to that (http://www.youtube.com/antonijnb)!

So that’s it for now. I’ll create another post very soon containing the source for UtilsTK, and I’ll keep you guys posted throughout the event!

Happy coding!

Finished the base code

So here’s the post I promised about the base code. Animations have taken longer than I anticipated. But anyway, here‘s the DropBox link.

If it doesn’t give you the download, then someone will have to explain to me how to share something with the public on DropBox…

So, just woken up at 8.00 AM on a Saturday, which is just… Unhealthy… But LD is worth it! I love the theme that has been chosen, and here’s my “Ideas.txt” about it:

YOU ARE THE VILLAIN #LD48, #LD25

– You Are SATAN!!! – You Are The ULTIMATE Villain
– Load of minigames
– Boss battle with the Yah-Wei
– Boss battle with THE FLYING SPAGHETTI MONSTER!
– PITCHFORK AS CURSOR!!!

– Minigames
     – You need to get as much people to hell as possible.
         – Busy street with people. You pick one of them, and there’s a dialog.
         – Meh.
     – You need to torture people in hell.
         – Will get repetative.
     – You need to fight as many gods as possible, before the time runs out.
         – Will get repetative.
         – Each of them has their own powers!

Making Progress!!! Slowly…

So here’s the first version of my “game”. You play as Satan, and need to defeat 10 gods, and then a final boss battle with YHWH. Maybe 10 is a bit optimistic, since this game still needs combat, movement, collision detection, more gods, a menu screen, end credits… Buy anyhow, here’s my first version!

Out of options

So I just went to bed yesterday feeling alright, but that switched a short time thereafter, when I realised my game play sucked. So I was considering a second attempt, but no. I’ll stick to this idea, make it more humorous, and make the game play more challenging.YoureTheVillain

needs more fps

Ok, this is better

So after my last post, I improved on the graphics, and they’re way better now! Well, better. Worse is better in this context! Here’s a screenshot of what it looks like with the new textures.YoureTheVillain

The only thing I need now, is the main component…

So, I’ve pretty much got all the fights with the Gods sorted out, now I just need the final boss battle with YHWH! It would be alright, only if I still had 9:30 hours, but it’s more like 2:30 in my case! !timeleft!!!

Anyway, here’s some screenshots:

Ra’s a bit of a stalker…

And the next one’s Buddha, if you can’t tell.

Now just the final battle. I’m thinking of a classical God, a white man with a beard on a cloud with angels around him. Hopefully I’ll be able to manage it! I’m glad I didn’t decide to start over by the way, ’cause I quite like what I’ve got now!

See ya when I’m done!

LD26

I’m in *sigh*

That was the catchiest fucking title I could come up with, shut up.

So, my second LD48, and I hope my game will be a tad better than my previous entry, because that was rather unfortunate.

And different tools as well. I’ve started preparing a bit earlier than last time, so I can do my development on linux now, without being dependent on fraps for the time lapse. Other than that, I’m currently using my own gaming library for C#, and will probably use my own toolkit for that as well, so that should be interesting. Hopefully I can get some work done on the actual game, rather than focusing on the bugs in those two projects!

Other than that, I’ll be using MonoDevelop/C#, Gimp/Kolourpaint, and SFXR (like everyone else on the friggin’ planet).

What went wrong last time, is that I kind of underestimated what could be done in 48 hours, so my game got a feature underload, something that is rather rare in video games. But this time, I think I’ve got a good estimate. (this will really suck if this game turns out worse than the previous one… but we’ll see…)

And that’s about it, I’ll do a time lapse of it, just like last time, and maybe I will live-stream it, since there’s some interesting stuff going on on the homepage, so yeah.

See ya on April 26th!

We’re in

So in a team this time round, me for programming and Pixel_Pants for graphics. The time zone difference is quite bad (the Netherlands vs Australia), but I think it’s doable. A third guy might join later for music, so that will be cool.

Tools:

Language: Java this time (I’m sorry, can’t use C# for technical reasons)
IDE: EclipseFramework: java.awt (I’m soo sorry) in combination with my own little framework thingy I wrote yesterday :3
Graphics: GraphicsGale
Sound Effects: SFXR/BFXR

Despite 10 seconds winning, we’ll try to make the best out of it :)

Btw, I’ll be streaming as well :)

STATUS REPORT

So, progress for today.

Not a lot.

Consider this a warmup day for programming, just didn’t feel like it today :), but nevertheless here is a screenshot of the current game version:

It’s an endless runner :)

Finishing Up In Fl Studio!

Finishing Up In Fl Studio!

great for you guys! Glymir out…

antonijn_plays_your_games

Yes, I’m playing and rating your LD games! Be sure to submit yours (you can do this at any time, please don’t wait for me to finish the game I’m playing).

I’m in too!

Woops, forgot about that whole “I’m in” tradition. Here’s the first ever (probably not) I’m in post with a sneak-peek screenshot of the LD game:

The town hall and a woodcutter's hut, some stone too, you can build a quarry there.

The town hall and a woodcutter’s hut. Some stone too, you can build a quarry there.

It’ll grow to become an sandbox, scenario-based underground town “simulator”, simulating a world where planet Earth is  invaded by aliens (or something). Of course you’ll have to face all complications that come with running an underground town 😛

Also, this is written in C++, which increases my LD-language counter to three languages. Also meant I basically spent the entirity of today tossing about trying to get basic OpenGL to work…

Anyway, see you all tomorrow, when hopefully this game will have been submitted!
