Ludum Dare 49

My first game jam! (also looking for a team)

Saw Lurum Dare was coming up and I saw a good opportunity to learn a bit more Unity with it (main engine is GMS2). It's not really my first game jam though, I tried to participate on another Brazilian game jam in 2019 but due to external reasons I had to drop out of it.

Also looking for a small team to work with me! Mainly a sound designer/musician, but an artist would really help a lot too! If you want to join me, contact me via Discord: arthurgps2#2697

Good luck for everyone!

Did some bug fixes to my game

Didn't know you could actually patch your game lol. Some collisions were broken and you could just bhop through the level (it was pretty cool though) and the time it took to extinguish fire and take damage varied according to your FPS. Now it's all working. (check it out! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/burning-down) imagemem2021-10-08/em191500.png

When a bug ends up turning into a really cool feature

Early in my project, I added a jump feature which made the character faster while airborne. This allowed players to "bunnyhop" through the level without even worrying about fire damage. Though it wasn't supposed to happen, and I removed this extra speed while airborne in a patch after the initial submission, I decided to keep the old version with the bhop bug because it was simply too cool to just throw away. This kinda reminds me of the Double Cherry origin from Super Mario 3D World, in which a bug ended up turning into a feature.

Can you beat my friend's record in the old version? He's got 2:44 and no one's got a better time until now. Wanna see you try! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/burning-down

Welp, that was fun.

My first game jam ever is ending in exactly 1 hour, 3 minutes, and 52 seconds. It was definitely a lot fun having to think up a game and build it from the ground up in only 72 hours. And somehow the feedback was pretty positive, considering I made this game all alone and again, in my first ever game jam.

People really liked the pixel art and animations, some even liked the music (literally my first time ever composing something), and most of all, people really liked the concept of my game and really wished they could see more of it, shame I could only build one level, and I don't know how to do procedural generation (yet) for something like an endless mode.

Nonetheless, I still think my game is pretty good, again considering all of the above. Someone mentioned I should be really happy with what I could achieve in 3 days, and I definitely am. Definitely doing more of these in the future. I also pretend to extend my game a little further eventually, even I wanna see what else I can do with this lol. (I know it's a little too late, but you can still play my game!)

Well, see you in a few hours!

I'm in :)

My first game jam ever was LD49. I went completely solo, using Unity for the first time, and finished my game in 72 hours.

Now I got some teammates from college with me, and doing it with GameMaker because that's what I'm more used to.

Soon we're meeting in call to vote for the themes and do a little pre-brainstorming. Good luck y'all!

I'm out :(

Wasn't quite satisfied with the ideas we had, plus some personal stuff made me just not feeling like it anymore. Oh well... at least some of the ideas were cool, though impossible to achieve in 3 days (I know there's an option for finishing the game after the jam ends but still).
