First Game Jam Ever

Hi

This will be my first Game Jam, but I think I'm ready for this challenge.

I feel quite confident with coding and 2D art at the moment, but I'm struggling when it comes to sound

I also have little experience with 3D art, so I hope MagicaVoxel will do the trick.

Tools: - Unity - Microsoft Visual Studio - SketchBook - MagicaVoxel - Abundant Music or Bosca Ceoil - ChipTone or Bfxr - Audacity

Wish you guys all the best.

Day 1 is over

Progress was really good. Running around and gathering works for my small villagers + animations. Sacrificing to god works and if god is angry he/she starts killing your villagers. (not shown in the picture)

Day 2: - improving gameplay and balancing - Music and sound effects - improving of UI - completing start menu and game over scene - improving graphics if there is still time left

Finished my first game jam!

Hi fellow game developer

I'm really glad that I finished my first game jam in time with a game I'm really proud of. In between I was not sure if the gameplay will be interesting, but after a lot of tweaking I think I created a small challenging strategy game.

Now it's time to go to bed. I can't wait to see all of your results in the next days and I hope to get good feedback from you.

I hope you all finished in time or will finish in time.

Good night

PS: Here are some screenshots from my game.

How does the metric for the my game work?

Sorry for that many questions

Can anybody explain me how this metrics work? (see screenshot below) 1. I guess "Ratings given" are the ratings the user has given. Is this number only for this game jam or since he/she joined ludum dare? How can this be floating point number? 2. How can "Ratings received" be a floating point number? 3. What is "Classic Balance"? What is a good value and how do I improve it? 4. What is "Smart Balance"? What is a good value and how do I improve it?

Test

This is just a test because I have no idea how my friend can find me otherwise :D

I'm in

Second LD jam for me, third jam overall. Planned to start in a team, but life had other plans. So, I'm again alone and have to do everything on my own again. More stress and less time, good combination

I wish you all the best for your game development and have fun.

Edit: No team this time, i'm alone again

I'm Out

A lot of stuff come together and additionally the theme just doesn't click for me and I can't get an idea which really motivates me.

But I will appreciate the theme of this jam over this weekend. Your life is currency, which means that your life (or better your lifetime) is what you use to trade to get money (at least in most jobs) to be able to live/survive. The only problem is that you can't really get additional lifetime. Once it is spend it is gone and you won't get it back.

So every second you trade/spend is really precious. Therefore, I will use the time I planned for the jam to really improve my skills in programming/drawing, to be in a better condition for the next games/game jams.

But I wish you all the best for your games and I'm really looking forward to playing them.

Village of Sacrifice - Remake

screenem2000x600/em2019-08-17_12-46-11.png

After quite some time now (9 month) I found a cool graphics designer and musician who helped me remake my game for the Ludum Dare 43 last year. If anybody wants to check it out, here is the link:

Here is a small comparison between the graphics I was able to create within 48h and what a real graphics designer can create

Ludum Dare 46

We are in (but still looking for an artist)

After having to skip two ludum dare game jams, I finally found the time for to join this one. I have participated in a few game jams on itch.io and co and I'm bringing an awesome musician with me for Ludum Dare 46. Unfortunately, our artist had to cancel and now we are looking for one (or more) artist(s). I'm experienced in 2D, but I'm up for the 3D challenge.

If you are interested, just respond to this message and we will get into contact.

You can checkout my games here https://firetotemgames.itch.io/.

Wish you all the best for the jam. Have fun and make awesome games.

--> THE INNER CIRCLE

thumbnail4.png

Take on the role of an ordinary government worker who has lived most of her live with the knowledge that she has been IN THE LOOP about information that is not accessible to the public. After finding a shocking correspondence from her superiors that revealed to her how much she did not know about, she decided to act!

Will you be able to successfully navigate through restricted areas of the government building and obtain incriminating material to expose them?

How to Swim! is released

LD48em06/emThumbnail3.gif

Another great Ludum Dare game jam is over and we managed to finish our game in time. And boy oh boy are we proud of this one. We wish others who are not this far all the best to release their games too.

A big thank you to @merlinnsound for the awesome music and sound effects. The game wouldn't be half as good without them.

If you want to test your swimming skills in a physics-based ragdoll rage game, here is the link. We hope you have fun and don't destroy any equipment 🙈

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/48/how-to-swim

So many awesome looking games!

I just wanted to say that it's crazy how good some of your games look just by scrooling through the Homepage. Awesome job from all the 2D and 3D artist out there.

I was too lazy to get a 2D artist into my team and stuck with the unity internal sprites and systems and font. I think it still looks quite decent 😅😅

Progress of our game mechanic during the jam

The goal was clear. Make a QWOP/Getting Over It like game where you control the two arms (upper arm and lower arm or shoulder and elbow as we called it) of a physics-based ragdoll character to dive down 100m.

First step was to get the arms move in a somewhat organic and logic manner. This was achieved within a very short time.

LD48em01/emArmMovement.gif

After that it was time to add the movement part. For this I swapped the background with an super ugly checkerboard to see the movement and I started to think about how to calculate the applied forces. For the physics calculations Unity did all the parts, but I had to come up with a clever way of preventing wrong forces so that the swimming feels realistic.

ezgif.com-gif-maker.gif

The steps above took only a few hours to finish and the rest of the jam was spent making it look cool, add some background elements to make the scene feel more alive. Then we added an objective for the player to get, main menu, pause menu and of course music and sounds which were done by @merlinnsound.

But, the main mechanic (apart from some tweaking) stayed the same. The final result you can see below.
