Our First Jam!

Crazy excited for myself and @Dozabro to take part in our first game jam with Ludum 40 (whether or not we succeed).

We have gone by many names in the past, but as of recent we call our dev team miniLuv(); and we are looking to make a name for ourselves in both game and software dev.

For this jam we will be building our game with Love2D (with Atom as our text editor), making sweet melodies with either BeepBox or Garage Band (depends on the theme), and creating art with Aseprite and other pixel-art tools.

Looking forward to jamming with everyone and I hope we can make something awesome and fun!

Didn't Make It!

IslandGame.png

Our currently unnamed "Island Game" harkens back to little digital handheld games. I always loved the idea of having an entire game in my pocket, and as an adult I still get giddy at the idea. Island Game is a combination of both a life sim and a management game, as you collect food and resources, streamline production, take care of each of your unique villagers, observe their village and watch them live, explore the land, work your way through dozens of crazy events and disasters, and protect your villagers from the wrath of the Sky God.

Unfortunately we (myself and @Dozabro) didn't get our game finished in time, but it looks like it may be a good thing in the end!

This was our very first game jam, and between a busy schedule and a slightly too large idea, we found ourselves knowing a couple hours before the end that there was no way we would finish. Blame it on inexperience or lack of time, that's just what happened. It also became pretty obvious that we definitely wouldn't have the time to add some amazing features that felt essential in the game.

Luckily, we still have a lot of drive and passion, and we love this idea so much that we won't be letting it go to waste. So make sure to follow me and keep an eye out for more progress, cause we'll be posting it on here as the game gets a tad closer to completion!

41 Here we Come!

Heya!

I'll be taking part in Jam 41 this coming weekend. Myself and @Dozabro attempted the last jam and failed miserably, so here's to hoping that this jam goes a lot better.

Mr.Doza may or may not be able to participate due to school, but I will be spending my full weekend on the project! There will most likely be some close friends and family jumping in and out of the project as well over the weekend (Lots of creative people~).

I will be writing my game in pure HMTL and ES6 JS (I have been writing an engine of my own over the past little bit) or Love2D if things go south. If it is just myself, I will most likely be doing my art in Illustrator, but if @Dozabro is able to join this may become an Aesprite thing. I will also be getting some help from my younger sister, who will be doing music with just a piano, Garageband, and a pocket full of love.

I look forward to seeing what we can make! These jams are a ton of fun and I hope that I can leave this one with a finished game!

FEELING THE HEAT

Ok so, we have 1 day and 6 hours left. So far things are going... Well slowly. I took on the game by myself at first and was able to get a lot of programming done. I ran into a huge standstill at the art though. Luckily the lovely and talented @Dozabro was able to jump on board and start doing art so I feel like we're back on track somewhat. Only time will tell.

Our game is a merge/strategy game (my wife loves merge games, so this was kinda something I wanted to do already). It was hard to work with the theme since "incompatible" doesn't really work, if the games were truly incompatible the games would either suck or make no sense. Luckily I think we were able to find two pretty different genres to work together, so at the least it should be an interesting mash-up.

Best of luck everyone!

Not Gonna Make It

Unfortunately it doesn't look like we're gonna make it (2nd jam in a row). I was pretty busy this weekend, as were my sister and @Dozabro, so we weren't able to get a whole lot done.

The good news is that what we do have so far is awesome! We took a bit of what we learned from the past game jam and attempted to make a similar game (maybe our first mistake), and in the end I was able to program a looot of the systems we struggled with last time. Last time we also had a huge focus on art and visual design, where as this time I spent most of my time developing systems in the background. I think it's safe to say that with what we have from the past two jams we can put together something really special. Hopefully we'll get a chance to share it with the world soon!

Either way it was a ton of fun and we have a game to finish now! Look forward to taking part in the next jam and seeing what everyone else has made!

Once again, I'M IN

THIRD TIMES THE CHARM!!

The last two game jams I've done ended the exact same way, only about 50% finished by the end of the jam. Since the last jam I've participated in I've worked fairly hard on prototyping and ideating, so I feel like I can definitely get something out quickly this time.

THE TOOLS I SHALL USE: - Love2D - Aesprite (My trust steed @Dozabro is busy with crazy school stuff, so I may be doing my own art for the first time) - Photoshop - Some sorta music stuff (Beepbox maybe?) - My creative spirit

I am super determined to get something done this weekend, good luck to everybody!

Ludum Dare 46

Once again, I am in!

After missing out on the last jam or two I'm glad to be back at it again! This time around I have a couple more helpers, so I'm hoping we can make something really awesome with the theme we get!

Speaking of themes, here are my suggestions: - Minute to win it - It comes naturally - It never ends

We made it!!!

For the first time we have completed a game for a jam!

Click there to play, I will be uploading some more thoughts and stories from our development after a tiny bit of rest~

HTML5, Mac OS, and Windows now all supported!

web post.png We had some issues with getting the different compiled versions of the game to run properly, but I am glad to announce that we now have it working on the 3 platforms listed above!

Give the game a shot, and let us know what ya think!

3..2..1 LET'S JAM!

Ludum Jam 46 was the first time we were able to finish a game as a team, and for all intents and purposes it went super well! Here's to hoping we can learn from our mistakes, improve our skills, and make something even more awesome than last time!

The Team:

Programmer - @bamallama (Myself)

Lead artist - @itzdaneko

Project Manager - @cbarkinnies (Don't underestimate the value of this role, extremely handy to have)

Music/SFX - @bgcrausen

Lil' bit of everything - @icyysilver

As for the tools we're gonna use...

Development Framework - Love2D or potentially Unity if we decide to go the 3D route

Art - Most likely Procreate on the iPad, but once again, if we go 3D it will likely be Blender

Music/SFX - Garageband and Audacity

Project Management - A whiteboard and some markers!

Hope all of you are as pumped as I am, because I AM PUMPED

Give me the loops brother

27f.jpg This was exactly the theme we wanted to win! Super excited.

Best of luck to everyone, and good luck jamming!

Hula Loop is finally working!

game.png

We finally got our game up and working after a butt-load of bugs.

This game has been fixed up since the original submission, there have been no changes to the gameplay except for a couple very minor balance changes, but I honestly don't know if this is within the rules. PLEASE do not rate this if you think this is against the spirit of the jam. The game was in a broken state when we uploaded it and I just wanted to make sure it would be up so people could enjoy it (and our work wouldn't be totally wasted)

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/hula-loop

Enjoy and I hope everyone had a great jam! Hopefully next time we can get our act together a little more.

In Once More!

Looks like we’re doing this again, and this time there’s a bunch of us!

Will post tomorrow our tools and team, hope everyone else is as excited as we are!

Jamming Deeper and Deeper...

I'm glad to say that we are participating as our team (MiniLuv) for the 3rd time! We already have a concrete idea and this game is already off to a great start. Without further ado, here is our team and tools!

Our Team

Programming and Game Design - Me! (@Bamallama)

Game and Narrative Design - @cbarkinnies

Character and Menu Art - @icyysilver

Background Art - @beeholder

Music - @bgcrausen

Our Tools

Game Engine - It's looking like we'll be going with Ren'Py this time around (I've never used it before, so quite excited!

Art - 90% of the art will likely be done in Procreate on the iPad, with the rest in Photoshop

Music - This one isn't fully decided, but likely GarageBand

We can't wait to share this game, good luck to everyone and hope it's a fun jam!

What is your busiest day?

The last day of the jam is always so tiring for us, with all the rushing to get stuff done. That being said, I’m pumped to show off our game!

So fellow jammers my question to you:

Do you usually get most of your work done at the start of the jam, or cram a bunch in at the end like us? Or something else maybe?

Getting Started with a Serious Project

Hey Guys!

Our team has made a few jam games, but we are hoping to get into a slightly more serious project (something a bit larger in scale than our jam games, and hopefully something we can release and sell). Looking for any resources you guys would recommend for project management, marketing, communication/dev blogs, etc (or even just some tips from fellow devs who have built and released commercial projects). This is our first time really trying to take on a serious project, so I just want to make sure we're heading in the right direction and aware of as many hiccups as possible beforehand!

Ludum Dare 50

The Bois are Back in Town!

Last jam our team missed the deadline for the first time since we started doing Ludum Dare, which was a bummer.

The good news is that since then we've begun the process of forming a game development studio so that we can make games in a professional manner.

Our new studio's name is Windy Bois. We're a team of passionate designers, developers, artists, and musicians who have been living (and working) together for over 5 years! We're like one big creative family and we're super pumped to start tackling our dream. We will be releasing our first game Blob on the Job this coming month on iOS (and hopefully Android).

Here's our team for the jam:

Project Management and Programming - @bamallama

Art - @itzdaneko & @icyysilver

Music - @bgcrausen

Design and More! - Potentially @cbarkinnies

Check out our progress (and please follow us ) over on Twitter click here!

Slow But Steady

Unfortunately we had a full day of no work due to me having to do a CPR course, so we're a bit behind. Good thing we work all speedy like~

Please follow us if you can on twitter! https://Twitter.com/WindyBoiGames

Tight Deadlines and No Time? No Problem!

Despite the universe trying its best to warn us against joining this year, our team (Windy Bois) will be participating! We all have icky adult commitments this weekend like work and stuff, so hopefully we are able to work around those restrictions and make something awesome!

Here's our team for the jam:

Project Management and Programming - @bamallama

Art - @icyysilver

Music - @bgcrausen

Design and More! - Maybe @cbarkinnies if he can lift his covid-ridden self out of bed

Check out our progress (and please follow us ) over on Twitter click here!. We are in the process of trying to make non-jam games, so we really appreciate any support we can get!

Have fun everyone, can't wait to play all the awesome games!
